joint
A joint or articulation (or articular surface) is the connection made between bones in the body which link the skeletal system into a functional whole. They are constructed to allow for different degrees and types of movement. Some joints, such as the knee, elbow, and shoulder, are self-lubricating, almost frictionless, and are able to withstand compression and maintain heavy loads while still executing smooth and precise movements. Other joints such as sutures between the bones of the skull permit very little movement (only during birth) in order to protect the brain and the sense organs. The connection between a tooth and the jawbone is also called a joint, and is described as a fibrous joint known as a gomphosis. Joints are classified both structurally and functionally.
Hi, I'm trying to post a new thread but it seems to think I'm a spammer or something. Maybe it's to do with the fact that I've just tried to paste my question in. Just posting this in the hopes that I can post my actual question in reply!

Hi, I have a couple of 1" brass female connectors on a hot water cylinder. I'm fitting 1" brass to 22mm compression fittings but I'm struggling to make the connection watertight. I have used lots of PTFE tape but it's still leaking very slightly at the joint between the female spcket and the...
Hi guys
Just inspecting another bit of work I recently had done and I've noticed that one of the soldered joints that were done has quite a bit of extra solder spilling out of the joint, just looks a bit messy/raggy if that makes sense.. all looks full of solder but not nice and smooth like...
How is it that when something is worked on in the area that compression fittings are fitted, the compression start to weep even though they haven't been touched and when you try to nip them up they are solid?
Hi all when you solder, a copper to copper pipe do you remove the heat source when you apply the solder, when the joint is hot enough?
Corgi says you should? confused thanks?
When I have finished the bathroom in the house on working on I have siliconed everything but in places I need to clean it up
When its dry what's the best way to get silicone off metal such as the frame work on a shower.

I have a very old Ideal Standard boiler with a reserve tank in the roof. About six years ago a plumber fitted a compression joint underneath a newly laid wooden floor whilst it was being laid, and this has been satisfactory.
I am now thinking of replacing the boiler with a new system...
Ok I'm not happy with this in all honesty. This Greenstar has been turned off because of the flue. I've been out and had a look. The flue goes from the ground floor flat through the ceiling in to the flat above, which is in a metal box. Then through the loft and out the roof. My supervisor has...
I have been using the presoldered joints for a while, usually with no issues. Recently I have had a series of bad joints on a hot water pipe. Am I missing something?
Turn off water, open tap for vent.
I clean the outside of both pipes with wire wool.
Thinly smear flux over the outside of all...
Customer wants a low profile walk in shower tray started to first fix the pipes and waste, problem is my waste, pulled floorboards up I have about 3 inch gap to position waste and run the pipe out the wall, I was thinking run wwaste thru the wall and connect to a flexi waste, but there is a...
Ok, I've been doing my own plumbing recently and my latest task is to re-do the main bathroom. Anyway, the 20 year old chipboard floor is at the tip and I'm putting down ply, but before I fasten the boards down I decide to address this 'problem' we were having with the cold tap being quite warm...
What is the correct way to make a compression joint? There are various views on whether sealing compound should be used or not. I want to replace a defective compression joint water valve which has 3 ports. From past experience, when I dismantle it the original tight fitting olives will remain...

Hi, I joined two sections of 15mm copper pipe today. Not something I've done before but had some help from the father-in-law. I used a straight coupler with the solder inside, which when heated flowed to the edges and seems to have sealed all around. My questions are, is it possible overheating...
Hi there. Just curious.....heavy DIY'er....just soldered to vertical coupling close to the floorboards (pipes coming vertically up from the void). Some flux - LA-CO - melted under the torch and ran down the pipe below the floorboards. Should I be worried?...keen to do a good job...and not...
Whilst recently altering the boiler flow and return to accommodate an underfloor heating manifold I de-soldered some joints and found that there were areas were the solder had not fully run. They were always on the top side of a horizontal joint and although they had not leaked as they were less...
