When people talk about 10mm wire for electrical shower ( 10.5kw), Is it the measurement of the diameter of a single cable ( the live for example) or is it the diameter of the whole 3 wires coated??
Sorry, amateur.. ;]
Thx!

if you dont know and are thinking of putting in your own shower, stop now. If you are having some one do it for you get them to show you some 10mm T&E

All right. Thanks every one for your answer and warning. I took my caliper and measured the diameter of a single wire coated : i got 5mm. But it doesn't mean it's a 5mm wire, right?

Or in other word, how can i make sure my wire is a 10 sq mm? How to measure it?
ThX!

A 10mm2 is approx 3.5682482323055424mm diameter so all you have to do is measure it ;)
Except if it's stranded, the effective csa will be the sum of the individual strands rather than the area of the bundle, so you'd expect to measure a larger diameter.

Or just look at the markings on the sheath?

If you are turning the air blue with expletives because it so awkward to work with and expensive to buy, the chances are you have 10mm T&E 6242Y

you will know its 10mm2 when it only just fits inside the terminals of the double pole switch and shower.

If it's not 10mm twin and earth then you will have an electric fire instead of an electric shower - easy!!
