How many of you have this? Just about to apply, so I can get an 1100L bin to put in my garage to get collected when full. £15 each collection.

Nah, I wasn't planning on getting one until they started random stops recently. Then I found out we could get free ones, happy days! Just wanted to share the joy - I didn't even know there were two tiers until a few days ago!

If anyone wants more clarification I have the contact details of the lady in the waste carrier licence team of the Environment Agency...
There will be more than 2 tiers(tears) if you get a £5K fine!

if you get stopped whilst taking your waste to be weighed in, you could be fined if you don't have a waste carrier's license. That's the benefit to you. There have been quite a lot of stop and searches in my area recently so I got one. You decide what level of risk you want. Given that you can get away with a FREE lower tier one which takes literally two minutes to apply for online, it's a no-brained to me...

I did it a few weeks back and looked at the 2 tiers and decided to go for the higher one out of the 2. I don't want to get fined for carrying something I'm not allowed to.

But what is building and demolition waste? If I carry an empty bag of sand and cement and a bit of rubble would that be classed building waste? If you meet a jobs worth will they get you for it. For £51.33 a year I would rather pay it and have peace of mind.

I got pulled on a DOT inspection, pulled into layby by Police, enviroment agency looked through van for any waste, luckily we do have a full waste license, tanked dipped for red diesel and full under vehicle examination, EA did say I was supposed to carry a copy of the waste license in my van. Yes any rubble etc needs higher tier license. They also talked about the cardboard from around a boiler I had.

forgot to say they also weighed my vehicle, and suggested I move tools to decrease weight over 1 wheel. Engineer explained all the above would effect my driving license except for the waste license which carried its own penalty.

free licence is fine lads, even if you carry rubble because if you get stopped just tell em its the first time you carried rubble they cant touch you as they cant prove otherwise and your free licence states you have 28 days to upgrade to paid if you begin to carry rubble

They can tripe the licence fee for all I care:). I have their confirmation saying my registration lasts a lifetime. So they ain't getting naught from muggins here.
To be honest, I had been planning on getting one from when my customer reported me for drinking in van. Van was searched and I thought before long, I will be done for not having a licence! Now I've got one. Happy days

I had an unvented ticket for life until they decided every 5yrs lol.

I have the second tier license, the person at the EA advised that I would need it when I explained my job. Didnt say that I would still have to weigh and pay each visit to the dump. That was a bit of a shocker after already spending £154.00. Not sure if the charges are local to dorset or national, i guess each county has its own rules.

You have to pay wherever you dump trade waste. Varies in cost from expensive to extortionate.

They won't be receiving any money from me!!!
i have a sledgehammer and a large used carpet in the garage. For every bath, basin or toilet I remove, I wrap around carpet and smash up with sledgehammer then bag and take to dump over weekend.

Plastic baths get cut up and burnt. Cardboard, timber gets burnt. Toilets and basins get smashed in Williams ply crates and then into the occasional skip I bring in.

CAUTION BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU OBTAIN YOUR LICENCE.

I googled waste licence as mine is due for renewal. It came up with Waste Carriers Licence went through the form until the end where it told me I would have to pay £205 for the renewal. Odd I thought it was £105. Luckily I checked before I paid. This is a third party site that charges you £100 to make the application on your behalf. Yet another scamming bar steward trying to relieve us of our hard earned.

Yeah I started to apply and noticed the cost would be £299 on one site as opposed to the EA site of £154 !
