Called out to a leak on a commercial central heating system in a service station today. The system was supposed to have been decommissioned but it turns out that the boiler was simply condemned. They had already had a new warm air heating system fitted instead.

Turns out the old CH system hadn't been drained down and started leaking from under one of the rads. My offer to remove all of the radiators and properly decommission the old central heating system was accepted. Spent the evening pulling out all the scrap from said commercial heating system. 42mm pipe for about 30m along the loft space then dropping down to 35 and finally 22mm. I now have half a van full of copper pipe. Can't wait to weigh it in tomorrow!

You got paid to remove it too lol!! That beer will taste sweet tomorrow!

We got paid for fixing the leak, the removal bit was free :)

Days like this don't come along very often. We are playing guess the scrap value. It's a VW Crafter and it is literally half full of copper pipe lol.

mutter mutter, I know where there is masses of 2" and 3" copper in the roof of a local factory, the facilities manager wouldnt let me remove any when I decommissioned 2 massive cwsc and put the water on mains only :(

My van is protected by hard b****** security. Anyone nicking a Scotsman's copper better be quick or hard as nails.

Got another house to rip out on Monday so will probably weight it all in at once.

Looks as if Christmas came early for you:)

Yeah but the missus still grumbled at me when I got back for working 4 hours extra on a Friday night..

Yeah she does. That's women for you.

That's only because you haven't got the money yet. As soon as you get it she will spend it for you on handbags and shoes! Or is that just mine?

Doubt it. She said we should weigh in all that iron scrap and give it to charity as a good will gesture. I told her 'no problem, I will give all the proceeds from the iron scrap to charity'. She didn't twig that it was all copper scrap bless her :)

Cant beat a bonus like that.

I know coppers down at the minute, but I got 58 for a cylinder and a few bits of copper. Should get in the garage, theres another cylinder and rake of copper, brass and ally. Stopped bothering with the heavy.

I will weigh mine in say mid-January. Except I run out of space in garage. Last week missus told me someone had knocked on the door asking if they could take the taps left outside garage door? I worry they now suspect garage may contain stuff. I am surprised they bothered to ask. That was a first

Well it's taken me 2 hours this morning to sort it all out and I reckon there is about 150kg of copper pipe in there. Plus the rads and everything else. I don't have the space to hold onto it till February or so but EMR don't seem to dip their prices down that much before Xmas unlike some of the smaller scrap yards.

Cash in the bank is worth more than metal lying around. Cash in the bank is harder to nab for starts!

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason...
