meters

The metre (Commonwealth spelling) or meter (American spelling; see spelling differences) (from the French unit mètre, from the Greek noun μέτρον, "measure") is the base unit of length in the International System of Units (SI). The SI unit symbol is m.
The metre is currently defined as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299 792 458 of a second.
The metre was originally defined in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference is approximately 40000 km. In 1799, the metre was redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar used was changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. The current definition was adopted in 1983 and modified slightly in 2002 to clarify that the metre is a measure of proper length.

No water in several of my flow meters

Hi, I have bought a house that has Uponoor water underfloor heating. It was running ok but the recent cold snap has resulted in me being unable to get my rooms warm enough despite the boiler churning through plenty of gas. A little googling and poking around with a torch reveals that there may...

Convert central heating with 1 meter into separate controls & meters

Would it be a big job? Would floorboards have to be taken up etc? How long would it take? Each unit is a single-person flat. Would tenants have to move while it's done, or could it be done in a short time...say within a day? It's an old building - heating is from 70s or 80s. The type of heating...

    Replace 2 meters with 1

Back in the eons of time, we used to have a massive gas boiler (feeding the house via about 2 inch steel pipes). This was fed by a large commercial meter (G16 ?). About 15 years ago, we replaced the boiler with 3 x 30kW Combination boilers and split the supply in to two G4 meters. The reason...

Black flow meters on new CH system

Hi Is it normal to have very black UFH flow meters on a relatively new manifold (see image)? (Note the two clear flow meters on the LHS are for circuits which are not yet operational, so no water flow through them as yet.) Background is that I have an unvented system boiler CH system...

    Accuracy of smart meters?

I've just had to take over the affairs of my late brother and I'm looking at his gas bill - the house has a smart meter and he's used more in July (he was single) than we do and there's 4 adults in our house. The bill suggests the readings are "actual" readings - so how would this be in the...

Training to fit smart meters (met 1)

Hi guys, Just a quick question, can a company train you from scratch just to fit smart meters (met1) ? or would you need to train for a ccn1 qualification first/along side? I was under the impression you would need your ccn1 to be registered gas safe ? Thank you in advance Kind regards Steve.

What tolerance is allowed on smart meters

Morning all, I'm just about to head out to a leak where the TOFOs have been after fitting a smart meter. Just had a thought, I assume the tolerances with appliances connected are still the same as normal. That sounds like a stupid question but I just wanted to double check incase it fits this...

Plumbing science question about meters head and bar

First I'll give my understanding on how I think it works, haha bear with me people. Say if I had a simple combination system and I wanted to make sure the boiler can heat my radiators across a flat that has an area of 50m2. The height of the flat is about 10m high. Would about 1-1.5 bar suffice...
