mdpe
Medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) is a type of polyethylene defined by a density range of 0.926–0.940 g/cm3. It is less dense than HDPE, which is more common.
MDPE can be produced by chromium/silica catalysts, Ziegler-Natta catalysts or metallocene catalysts. MDPE has good shock and drop resistance properties. It also is less notch sensitive than HDPE. Stress cracking resistance is better than that of HDPE. MDPE is typically used in gas pipes and fittings, sacks, shrink film, packaging film, carrier bags, and screw closures. In the United Kingdom, black (or blue) MDPE is often used for water and waste water plumbing, and may also be referred to as 'black alkathene.'
Hi, I'm a competent person by diy standards and would like to understand if there are any serious flaws in the following plan.
Currently the supply pipe comes from the water board's box and across the boundary in a 25mm MDPE blue pipe.
That pipe is then joined to the original lead pipe, which I...
Hi,
Firstly, sorry if this is a simple or silly question, I'm a plumbing virgin so want to get it right.
We have a water supply at our allotment using 1 inch mdpe pipe and brass taps, that we screw on a hose adapter, then fit a normal hose pipe to water our plots with.
I want to...
Hi,
I have a 32mm mdpe pipe in a warehouse that I need to re-route. We can't shut the supply off so I wanted to freeze it to work on it. Is an electric pipe freezer likely to damage the pipe by making it too cold / brittle? Don't want to get halfway through the job and find it splits or cracks...
Hi all
have been asked by a builder to fit a new mains.
He he is supplying the pipe n fittings but is using floplast. I normally only use JG so am after a little advice.
Are floplast fittings demountable?? Looked everywhere but can't find a straight answer...
I've want to take a spur off the short section of 25mm MDPE pipe going into the house just just after the stop tap. It's to get full pressure for the outside taps otherwise the 15mm pipes snake all the way through the house to the outside tap. The question is what should be done to comply with...
I need to replace a leaking lead mains supply pipe which runs from the outside pavement through to the basement of the property. The water supplier will be raising the pavement to provide a connection for the new supply pipe to the exisiting communication pipe which, they have assured me, is...
Hi guys
I have a new house which is connected to the water main with about 20m of 32mm MDPE (26mm i/d). Measured at the internal stop tap, I have decent mains static pressure of 3 bar. When I turn on a tap, the dynamic measurement is a different matter altogether.
I monitored the dynamic...
How many of you guys get asked or lay MDPE on jobs??? or do you pass it on to groundworks ect
there's an extent as to how dirty some guys are willing to get on a job I dont mind abit of digging and pipe laying it comes with the job i think.
I had to lay 60m of 32mm MDPE water mains and 60m of...
I'm going to put a garden tap on the rear of the property as I only have on the front of the property. I've decided to do this myself. It's roughly a 12-14 metre run it will need to be run from the loft.
In the loft I have a cold shower feed that's a 15mm copper pipe. I want to connect to...

Hi. Before I dig up floor, pressure has dropped from 3 bar to 1.8 over 12 hrs on a 25m length of new MDPE (wondering if this stuff expands hence drop?). Obvious pipes and test gear dry.
What would you do??
Ta.

Hi, I'm after some 63mm MDPE to build a pollytunnel on my allotment. I was wondering if anyone had any excess they needed to sell? or can let me know where is the cheapest place to buy it? I'm located in Gateshead but would be happy to travel to pick up.
Thanks for taking the time to read

Hello,
Just registered although browse the forums quite often as we're doing our house up. I'm putting in a new kitchen, and as such my sink has moved so I need to move my stopcock- the current position would reduce the space and original decision of the unit that it'd have to go in (was going...
I don't suppose anyone has the regs to hand regarding MDPE above ground, specifically regarding the rules regarding direct sunlight?
I'm on a job at a farm where they've supplied one of the stables by running MDPE from a workshop - but the MDPE runs along the side and at the top of a 16' high...

Hello,
I have an old lead common supply pipe which feeds my house first then a few other houses, from underneath my terraced house.
I have contacted UU as I wish to change this to a MDPE pipe, which is fine, and they will take me off the common supply line, so I have my own feed.
Now the...
Hi,
I've just had a new combi boiler fitted in my bungalow (37kW) and the existing 22mm pipe (routed through the loft) is not good enough to maintain the pressure and support the gas flow (the many elbows don't help here and the loft is now converted so cant gain access easily!). Gas meter is...
