Hi all, am about to re-new my copper direct hot water cyl. i have some parallel threaded brass unions to fit, do I need any washer between these and the cyl. or just say, tape/and or none setting paste?

Thanks for help ( and patience with such a basic question )

Hi, PTFE is the norm but plenty of it. This in it self will form a washer with the surplus.

Used that thread string just last week along with a little ptfe ... worked a treat! .......... Forgotten the name of the bleedn' stuff!! Sheeesh! Got a good tight feel when tightening up and no leaks :)

Locktite55 ??

I use Loctite 55 and LaCo Slictite for good measure.

I must admit, i have never even used loctite 55. The nearest i came to it was when they sent me a sample about 10 years ago when it came out. Don't know what happened to it but i never used it.

You can seal anything with tape or boss white and hemp.

You and old phart Tamz? I use to do PTFE and paste to the max .. was double impressed with the loctite :) Have used it on commercial too and had no comebacks .... Having always stuck with the same method for years trying something 'new' was aprehensive... I was chuffed to bits that it'd done the biz! lol :D

Well i have looked, on several occasions, for that sample of 55 but so far i have been unable to remember where i put it. I fear i may never get the oportunity to try it as i have 100's of rolls of ptfe left

Well I'm an old phart tamz :) still wanted to ptfe and paste, just in case! So this time i just used 55 and ptfe ... I honestly don't know if i can chance just using 55? lol

When you know what works, use it! eh? :D
