Hi

Im looking to do City and Guilds and NVQ Level 3 at the basildon centre. Got an appointment to go there monday but does anyone know how much it is? Im 18 in July so do i still get government funding like i get for going college?

Nope not employed but thinking of going self employed doing just maintenance jobs for experience

Got an appointment Monday up at the training centre and meeting the careers advisor aswell. They told me I can do the nvq with them at the training centre but I thought the nvq was work based. Grrrrrr! Been trying for months to get an apprenticeship but no one will take me on because I have city and guilds level 2 and I have a level 1 nvq but I always get told from the companies than I need an nvq level 2 to get an apprenticeship but I can't get an nvq level ??? It's confusing

dont sign anything until youve asked questions on here, is a careers advisor a salesman?

C&G dont mean anything, read my link, you need to say tech cert if thats what it is

Stay away from private courses if i was you mate, your just get ripped off an pay well over the odds for your qualification.

Saw the careers advisor today and i dont get funding even though im only 17. The course is ÂŁ6500 but if i go on the dole the government will pay for the course when im 19! How wrong is that! Robert Halfon my local mp lives two doors away from me and today i spoke to him about the and i couldnt get through to him that they are wasting money and will be paying me ÂŁ50 per week until im 19 and then ÂŁ6500 when i am 19! Half the people i know live off government money and just go to college to get extra money and they dont deserve to be paid for but when i actually really want to do something with my life i dont get any help at all. Bet if i was foreign i would get funding to do the course. I wouldnt even need any qualifications if i was foreign i could get any job i wanted but if your english and actually want a successful life then the english government just dont care about you.

Rant Over.

sorry mate you have it all wrong. the government pay for all courses for people under 19. Its not the governments fault its the centre that cannot access the funding, if they did they would be OFSTED inspected. go to a college and its FREE.

Also, what course was it? there are some bum plumbing courses

Yep, agree with Fuzzy Bear...

Heard about OCLI and building trade skills centre for plumbing nvqs but not great things I'm afraid. Promises of work placements and jobs but nothing available. I live fairly local to one training centre and they call me on a weekly basis to ask if I have room for a worker. I've recently got my gas safe and just started out on my own so can't help...

Just beware of what you're getting yourself into, read the contract properly as they won't let you take it off site.

Hi jstevens,
I trained with OLCI after looking into all options as you have done. Loads of people said to go to college because its cheaper but I couldn't get into my local college and it would have taken ages to wait until there was a place available. There wont be the same funding options because its private but I decided to go with them anyway because I could start training quicker plus they do help you with finding work.

Not sure about conversion factors Fuzzy, I know that they help you get placements if they can, help me set up my cv and finding customers but they have said that it mostly needs to come from me, I have to put the work in which makes sense but they will offer the expertise and give me a nudge in the right direction.
