Want to add multi fuel stove to existing oil fired, open vented system.Plan is to use the stove as primary heat source, and using the existing oil boiler as a back up. Got a rough idea of how it should be done, just need some advice. Stats, MV's,Pipework arrangement etc.
Thanks.

when i link a stove to only open vented system.
Take two pipes from your stove 28mm copper for gravity flow and return to your cylinder, these pipes have to rise (flow) and fall back to the stove (return) on flow pipe after the cylinder connection take a vent off and to the f+e tank in the roofspace
then take another two pipes from the stove and fit a pump and checkvalve and link to the biggest central heating pipes if zoned make use after m/v and on the radiator circuit.
with the two pipes rising from the stove to the cylinder and then on the vent this acts as a safety circuit and heats your water, say your pump failed and you had the stove on the water can always get away via the vent.
now the pump is wired with a pipe stat located on the return of the gravity after the cylinder when this hits 45degress the pump turns on a takes away the water from stove and turns off when temp drop and then this happens again and again while your stove is running.
you may need a twin coil cylinder for this and if your cold feed fills the radiators it will fill the stove via the link to the radiator circuit.
remember to cross flow your connections to the stove

Proposing what you are doing is a good concept. But this can be extremely dangerous if you get it wrong. If you are not sure how to do it, please seek some advice from proffesionals in solid fuel installations and appliances. Speak with HETAS the registration body. Euroheat are a good company too, they run training courses and have a fantastic range of quality appliances. They are very helpful. www.euroheat.co.uk
