Discuss Oil tank inside garage is it ok? in the USA area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi

I'm looking for some advice my parents property has a double skinned oil tank which is located within a garage (garage is not used for anything else).

The company they purchase their oil from keep pushing them to move the oil tank outside. I appreciate the tank position is not likely to meet current regs and if a new tank was install the location would need to move but as it an existing tank in good condition is there any great need to move it? As I understand it existing tanks do not need to meet the current regs (as long as it's safe obviously) is that correct?

Most technicians will just mark it down on the paperwork as not to current standards.
Tanks installed installed to current standards within a building must be done properly.
Until the tank needs replacing I wouldn't worry.

If it's not fire rated tank. Knock up a stud wall with some fire rated plasterboard and a fire door.

Lots of property with oil tanks in sheds and garages.
