I'm employed as a plumber and GSR. I currently earn £11 an hour for a 40 hour week (£23k). I am provided with a less than 3yr old van and company clothing. If I finish early in the day due to speed I am still paid the full day but if I run over I get overtime. I've worked for the same company since I was 21 and am now 25.

I've recently asked my boss for a payrise. I like working there so don't wish to move on. He surprised me by asking the question 'come up with a way of earning more money and I'll consider it?'

I've thought of asking for a lower salary and then getting paid a percentage for each job. So the quicker I work the more I get paid? I'm not really up to speed on salaries so could anyone offer advice on this, or do you have an incentive that works at your company? Appreciate any SENSIBLE replies please ;)

thanks

Why don't you shop around? See what other work is out there. Don't work for a pound less than you could be working for.

Sorry should have said 65 for the plumbing and 80 for the heating but that's inclusive of VAT. I think I may have to look for another company but am not overly keen on working on a Saturday as I'm used to mon-friday

I work for a company and never do weekends or call outs. There are some good ones out there.

if your happy with the work and sounds like you have a good job environment, stay round here its alot less (half what your on) so count your self lucky and stop moaning

But you're in Wales. A house costs about 12 quid. He doesn't need to "count himself lucky" he needs to find out what he could be earning elsewhere.

Don't forget that your boss is providing you with a van tools consumables sick pay holiday pay work phone and work he's got to make some profit off you as well before paying you, yes id say that £11 PH sounds a little low but some of my jobs I'm only earning £15 PH and I'm SE with all the over heads to pay before making any money

thats fine and what happens if the work environment is 1000% times worse and gets 15 jobs a day before he goes home

And sheep don't expect to be taken out for dinner, or flowers and chocolates...

I forgot to add the training and gas safe registered and calibration of tools

I am happy with the work. Just I've seen gas jobs offering around £30k on job sites and thought I should be asking my boss for the equivalent.

i would take that with a pinch of salt, have a look in the paper/ training centers 6 week gas course after that you will be earning 30-60k a year

I see them a lot but in reality unless you want call outs and long hours a lot of the companies are not worth looking at.

There are well paying jobs out there that are good companies to work for but majority are pants. A lot want there monies worth and a lot more and they get people willing to do as at the moment supply is still a lot higher than demand.

Then he'll have to pull his finger out. But he'll be eating crispy duck on Friday night rather than special fried rice.

is it worth it kill you alot faster tho :D and special fried rice is good

Are you earning enough money at the moment to pay all your bills, feed yourself have some luxury and maybe even put a little bit away each month?
