So guys, i went to one of my friends parents places today, radiators banging.
on inspection i found the worcester 24i junior green star lpg in the loft.

no pressure, expansion vessel flat (not busted) and prv jammed open.
managed to close that but will replace

heat exchanger "ribbing" like a baked bean tin as shown on previous threads.
filled it up and fired it and i could hear the heat exchanger pinging and popping.

i'm weighing up what to do due to cost wise of parts and time, silly place for the boiler ect ect

whats added another element of......awkwardness came up when i checked the paper work.

The install and services few were done by the guy who for a while helped train me.
Last service four months ago

i don't think its been maintained well at all....
the salt in the wound is i still sub to him and thats where a chunk of my work comes from still.

what to do :(
do i let him know, i know if i do it wont end well

At the same time i feel obliged to do the right thing by the owners.

For the moment ive left the boiler turned off

There's a ten year warranty on those kebab heat cells. Call worcester and pretend you never saw the paperwork. Job done.

I saw a ribbed heat cell a few weeks ago, was quoted 260 plus vat for a replacement! maybe let Worcester go to the boiler for a fixed price lol!

Or pump up vessel, change trv, flush or add boiler descaler...? Not sure if that would work tho.

your working and being paid by the people, your alliegence is to them really

10 year warranty yes, but not if its sludged to hell surely lol?

Seriously? Could kiss you vt

Yeah man. Ten years. If they go all ribbed and stuff then they will replace free of charge. I can't remember what worcester told me but I'm sure if the heat cell goes all wrinkled and ribbed its faulty anyway, regardless of water quality in the system.

Just call call worcester and give them the boilers serial number and they will get an engineer round to fit it.

Ill pass on the kiss though :)

If its in the loft, then maybe it lost pressure & cooked its own heat cell? These greenstars have no low pressure cut off!

If it pin holes due to sludge then I don't think it's covered, but this one is all wrinkled and its faulty so they have no choice but to replace it.

I can't remember why they told me it did this but there is a reason and it only happens on a few of them. They replace it anyway.

Ive be found a handful and they have always honoured their warranty and changed for new.

Im tempted to fit a low pressure cut off to it, simply because its them.
Annoying as hell but no cooked boiler

The reason they ripple is because of overheating, could be sludge, poor circulation or low pressure. Either way Worcester are normally pretty good with warranty repairs, got to be worth a go.

surely Worcester have a solution for this... There are alot of boilers in loft spaces these days! A plug in type switch would be good for this scenario if Worcester are reading As an optional extra!

I bet they wouldn't do anything anyway. I was told on a worcester course that the reason they don't have a low water pressure cut out is to reduce callouts.

I think the new juniors do have it?

This set up is silly, the programmer is the the loft too, boiler i hung up high too. Its silly

Do they have to go into the loft to turn the heating on then? Isn't there a stat?

id fit a remote one if there isn't one. Easy money :)

I don't think any new Worcesters have it mate. I will probably be proved wrong though.

Silly drayton wireless stat that is cack.
i'll be putting a hard wired programmer down in the old airing cupboard and another wireless stat in.

I'm quite miffed at the said guy tbh.
all hes done is stick the analyser in and cleaned the trap out.
Which i think he emptied into the insulation tbh

Boilers in loft these days, don't they need a hand rail fitted for any future work carried out ?

I wouldn't if I were you. Remember last year? The strumpet who didn't show up? Your actual gay man?

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth Thomas!

Hes on the tele and that now. He's still mates with that fit girl too :)

I haven't seen him since, he's my best mates sisters friend.

Shall we etch that on your tombstone?
because we sure as hell will keep reminding you now :D

No low water pressure switch because it's designed to be cost effective. To Worcester that is, the whole design is based on skimming as much off the production costs to increase saleability and margins.

not really sure you can blame the service guy, nothing to say it hasn't lost its pressure within the last 4 months (heating season) and cooked itself into a crinkly bean can.

I'd always assumed they came out of the factory like that until I fitted one. Nearly every Worcester I come across has the bean can HE.
