running

Running is a method of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot. Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground (though there are exceptions). This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum fashion. A feature of a running body from the viewpoint of spring-mass mechanics is that changes in kinetic and potential energy within a stride occur simultaneously, with energy storage accomplished by springy tendons and passive muscle elasticity. The term running can refer to any of a variety of speeds ranging from jogging to sprinting.
Running in humans is associated with improved health and life expectancy. It is assumed that the ancestors of humankind developed the ability to run for long distances about 2.6 million years ago, probably in order to hunt animals. Competitive running grew out of religious festivals in various areas. Records of competitive racing date back to the Tailteann Games in Ireland between 632 BCE and 1171 BCE, while the first recorded Olympic Games took place in 776 BCE. Running has been described as the world's most accessible sport.

Domestic water pump keeps running, is that normal?

My mum's house has poor water pressure, so she has a water pump fitted to boost the pressure when having showers. As far as I'm aware, it just comes on when there is a demand (i.e. Taps on, shower on etc.) Earlier today, I popped round to water her plants while she was out. I filled the...

Running water in toilet pan until I lift the cistern lid

Hi, I have running water into the toilet pan after flushing. It is not the overflow as the water level stops below the overflow. The water in the cistern does not start rising after flushing. That is until I lift the cistern lid off. Doing this immediately allows the water level to rise. Not...

    UFH pressure when running.

Hello I've laid wet UFH in the new extension (suspended floor) as follows: 1) 3 loops (about 80m each) in the zone. 2) 2 port valves for 3 zones on the flows (UFH, upstairs rads, downstairs rads). The pressure test indicates no leaks in any of the loops. When the valve to the UFH is closed...

    Boiler feed pipes

This is a question of which pipes are which really with regards to the infeed and outfeed pipes to boilers in general but more specifically the gas feed pipe. Is this usually noted by a yellow thumb turn switch? No work to be carried out here of course just to make that clear :-))

Would you REALLY always recommend running UFH constantly?

Been adding UnderFloor Heating to my own house and it's running provisionally. Controls yet to be wired. Can't think of ideal system but this is the best I can think of myself: Since the UFH is auxiliary to a radiator (theoretically not enough output from UFH to hold its own in cold weather)...

Hot water tap running cold after a few mins using Logic Combi 30 - Technical Question

I posted a question earlier today but the thread was closed by the moderator after being told "You require a gas safe engineer. This forum doesn't give advice on boiler repairs on the open forum." I'm NOT looking for advice on repairs, I just want to know the theory / technical / theoretical...

I have a 5 year old Logic Combi 30 serviced around 4-5 months ago. The rad heating supply is fine but I've noticed recently that if I run the mixer tap in the wash hand basin for a while when shaving, it runs hot for about 30 seconds and then goes cold. I then have to run the tap on full hot for...

Pump very hot & no CH

Hi All, Looking for some advice to see if there's a simple (or at least temporary) solution here. I have a gravity fed system with two loft tanks and a Potterton 40e boiler. The pump (Grundfos) is red hot when running. There is hot water (though seems not as hot as it used to) but no heat to...

    Ideal HE30 L-F fault

Hi, I have an Ideal HE30 which is displaying the L-F fault. I have measured only 110v dc at the gas valve(instead of 200v i believe) and there is no voltage going to the igniter module except for near the end of the sequence when 200v flashes up for about a second. The boiler goes through its...

Heat turned off but pump in the airing cupboard keeps running

I turned the heating off at about 10. But the pump in the airing cupboard was still making a noise like it was on. There's a wall switch which allows it to be switched off in there. So it's off and quiet. But the manual switch had always been left on before and it was totally quiet unless...
