USA Using a USA trap on a UK sink

One problem with buying an American one is if anything goes wrong it becomes much more problematic to get replacement parts. Before buying into any of these think how much clay might go down the drain and will some of it be as fine slip. The water flow wants to end up slow enough to allow...

    Problem with wall hung basin

Moving back to the job, why has the sink come lose, the tile broken? How was it all fixed to the wall? Sounds like it might be tiles on plasterboard on stud wall with simple plasterboard fixings. A steel or wooden frame needs to be securely fixed to start.

    Outside service pipe

Is it metal or plastic pipe? Could a pinger be attached at the end for use with a pipe tracer? Specialist pipe tracing equipment can be hired or if metal maybe a simple metal detector might help in finding the pipe. If it comes to replacing a lot of length need to be sure their aren't other...

    Strange tap setup

Taps have been noticed to occasionally leak, get turned on inadvertently, left on. Without a sink might have a rather wet kitchen, better to use a 3 way tap as suggested.

Old lead pipe leading into house

Once back talk to your water board, some have lead replacement schemas to replace old lead pipes. Don't necessarily need to dig a trench as a mouse system may be able to put in the mdpe which is well worth looking int.

    A first for me today..

Sometimes heating with a torch and letting cool a couple of times can break the bond so it moves.

    Advice on condensate pipe

In this weather 100ml is maybe still a bit of a small flow. A bit ends up at the end of the discharge, freezes, the next doesn't quite melt it all maybe at a slight sag in pipe or bend or coupling. Hasn't the Thames been known to freeze :-)

    Advice on condensate pipe

OK, water freezes if it gets cold enough. Problem is that a condensing boiler is producing a small nearly steady trickle of condensate which can cool enough it freezes if running along a cold length of pipe. If the pipe is larger or insulated it will just take longer to freeze. If it has to...

should government make it law to be qualified plumber to do plumbing work for money?

Re: should government make it law to be qualified plumber to do plumbing work for mon From a tradesman's point of view, yes require lots of certificates. From a customers view, no, just have a way to prove good quality of tidy work at reasonable price. So maybe have a website which lists all...

Extended S plan with 5 channels 2 pumps

First I would like to thank everyone who has made helpful suggestions, but particularly doitmyself and TheGasEngineer who took a lot of time understanding this system. Will soon have to go back to the actual system to do something. It looks like will have to simplify the controls and not give...

Extended S plan with 5 channels 2 pumps

My understanding of regs was: OK, TRVs could be used throughout but then no separate time controls. Separate pumps not NEEDED but quicker DHW recovery times when CH is also in use and separates out balancing in the DHW circuit with the heating circuits. doitmyself gave a good schematic...

Extended S plan with 5 channels 2 pumps

The house is just a large domestic one needing a new boiler. The plumbing has been in place about 17 years, originally with two zones DHW & CH. New building regs specify the CH has to be split into two zones. Two zones is of limited practical use so the idea of sub zones. I had...

Extended S plan with 5 channels 2 pumps

I think I am virtually there in thinking through the design, but a description of house and pipes might be useful. House is 3 story plus basement (where the boiler is) and it has 3 levels of half landing rooms. Pipework and radiators are all in place, put in by a heating engineer 17 years ago...

Extended S plan with 5 channels 2 pumps

Yes, its that layout which has partly dictated using sub-zones. Just went back last night to see if any could be easily changed. Might be able to move the upstairs off the basic zone with some tightly fitted 22mm. Would become like your attached jpg.
