its supprising how many fires you come across fitted to timber hearths and surrounds. Found quite a number earlier this year on counsil contract that had been serviced by large contractors for a number of years without any questions asked. Tennant then looks at you like your talking out your rump when you tell then its incorrect and will need changing.

yep i thought that and 225mm depth from radiants to hearth and 300mm from the back of the fire to the front of the hearth

225mm from burner to floor is a minimum height for wall mounting, no hearth required. Providing the gas fire's manufactures instructions allow it!
