Just had a Text saying they have an offer of a De Walt 18volt Lithiun Ion battery drill for £ 68.33 plus VAT . I was going to get one then I found out that it only has ONE battery with it . bit of a bummer . I need to replace my drill as the Nic cad batts are nacked . And would be expensive to mend Batteries .
I might just get another Dewalt 18 volts with 2 nic cad batts for about £ 83 plus VAT . Has anyone seen them cheaper . Cheers .

Take a look at the Bosch Professional GSB 18 V - LIDS from Screwfix.
You can get it with one 4ah lion battery or two 2ah lion batteries for near £150.
Very compact well balanced drill.
Just be careful to not confuse it with the different weaker model with similar code.

I agree, two of 2ah batteries are better than one 4ah because when your single 4ah battery runs out you haven't a spare fresh one. Besides, the 2ah will be slightly lighter & less bulky, both of which can be an advantage when you are in tight spaces or using the drill above your head etc.
Both batteries give the same power after all, - it is just the length of time of running.
I am not a Bosch fan tbh, but that drill is so compact & powerful & at that price it's very good for a combi drill that is a professional tool. Way ahead of drills at around £100

That's the drill I am talking about. Lovely to hold, very short well balanced body & with 13mm chuck & 4 pole motor & plenty of torque plus 3 year warranty.

Ive had bosch and makita 1.5ah ish, the cheap ones you used to get for £100.
Both had a couple of batteries but were ****.
You're right, ok for screwing but I still wouldn't bother with one again after using the 4ah

I was proper annoyed with this deal!!!
tradepoint = £68.33 + VAT
b and q = £82
so for being a tradesman, using b and q a lot and being loyal to b and q you get......... nothing

Thanks for all of your comments Guys , really helpfull . I only need a drill for lighter work so I wont go up to a 4 ah battery . I will prob go to pee & poo and handle a few drills to see what feels good then go home and order it from elsewhere .

pMy drill usage is as follows, all makita, with 3 and 4AH for battery drills

Drilling metal / holesaws, etc - 18v Combi Drill
Drilling for plugs - 18v SDS, prv holes
Drilling 22mm-26mm - 2kg 240v sds
Cores - DDM2
General Screwing duties - 10.5v Driver
Clips / rad Bracket Screws - 18v Impact
Angle drill as required, SDS Max for chiseling

Ijust never use trade point guys , im a member and ive my card but just never seem to use them , i went off b n q along time ago and just look at them as being a one stop diy shop, the prices for all there stuff up with us is crazy expensive, Its a pitty as when the trade point book comes in i never read it but maybe i should just to see if i could be making a saving , good posts guys

4ah is just the battery's fuel tank, it will give slightly more power with some tools but wont make a poor drill a good drill.

those cheap bosch drills that were under 100 at screwfix were/are poor, had poor motors/power and plastic gearings. The one linked in this post that 149 squids is quite a good drill.

I am a Tradepoint member but I don't know why I bother unless I can't find it anywhere else..doesn't seem any cheaper, the tills aren't any faster and I know for a fact that they are supplied by Screwfix.

Not long ago I bought some "No Nonsense" PVA from Tradepoint B&Q which is as you probably know a Screwfix brand, when I queried that with a member of staff she said Screwfix is actually a supplier of B&Q...when you think about it they both have roughly the same number of stores in the UK whereas the one specialises and probably turns over more in tool's n hardware than the other and is likely to have a stronger, cheaper supply chain for certain items they both happen sell.

It probably happens all the time between retailers...

18v is the smallest you will constantly use for drilling walls but 24v is better the ah rating has no effect on the drill it will just do the same for longer. in this case voltage is the size of the engine the amp hours is how much petrol you have, full or nearly empty wont make any diffence to the car(ignoring weight )

I was in a large tool store yesterday that sells trade tools. They have the Bosch Professional cordless drills, same as Screwfix. Guy told me to avoid Bosch cordless completely. He said Bosch make the best corded stuff but their cordless tools are not great & he regards them as more DIY.
Guess everyone has there own views.
He said the Metabo are one of the best & he would recommend to buy drills with brushes as cheaper & more strength in real terms. He said buy the basic Metabo combi drill (still an excellent pro drill) with 4amp batteries, charger, quality bags & impact driver together for £270 + vat.
