Be very careful here, these boilers are getting very old and you can not get the case seals anymore, so if you open up could be left with a big headache as boiler operating under positive case pressure ie if seal not correct will be pushing flue gases into room

I would not service this boiler and advise a replacement, these boilers havecaused fatalities,

Think it has paid for itself a fews times over by now

imho

Hi Puddle

Seen that list and the Netaheat is listed as having asbestos in the insulation and the gaskets if I remember rightly. When removing them to replace or opening up to service, what precautions would you normally take?

If removing from the wall and leaving pretty much in one piece? If servicing?

I've been asked to look at two of these to service for family/friends.

If anyone's got the service manual I'd appreciate that. Thanks

Think the insulation boards contain asbestos and the rope seals, can anyone confirm this?

You need to watch the backplate on these boilers, they rust through for fun and also a screw for the earth tag often gets left out when people change the fan. You really need to run you FGA all around these boilers when servicing them to make sure they arent leaking any products of combustion.

the neta heat, one the seals are still available, 2 be carefull as they have two( if i remmember)murcury switches in, double check seal as most of the earlier ones are poss presure in case, think i have service manual for them regards cjg

with these boilers there is an asbestos rope seal between the back of the boiler and the wall. Most times these boilers are removed this seal falls apart. I would advise that if you need to remove the boiler then get a asbestos specialist to come and remove it and despose of it correctly. I am not sure about any seal inside these boilers as i have only ever had them removed.

In reference to servicing you've got to consider the limitations to working safely with asbestos. Once the case is removed there is little else you can strip down without disturbing rope seals! The burner door has a rope seal around it as does the flue hood. I limit my work on these to a safety check, and that is done with caution and a recommendation of replacing.
As mentioned they are notorious for the back plate rusting through and becoming dangerous. It's difficult to check this and I've seen plenty in the past holed and spewing out fumes!

as said the netaheat is deadly and has caused fatality's if you have managed to get a case seal your very lucky they have long since been obsolete, and they are full of asbestos i would not touch one with a barge pole yesterdays technology fit for the skip IMHO

I wont service this model of boiler, and I dont like rremoving them either as they are the heaviest object known to man

Very good point, I see a lot of these, research has found that the rivets on the back / top do perish and therefore leak. We have a standard procedure to inspect the rear where system pipe enters heat exchanger and run the gas analyser around the boiler whilst running. Any CO readings and the boiler is ID.
