sludge
Sludge is a semi-solid slurry that can be produced from a range of industrial processes, from water treatment, wastewater treatment or on-site sanitation systems. For example, it can be produced as a settled suspension obtained from conventional drinking water treatment, as sewage sludge from wastewater treatment processes: 23–25 or as fecal sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks. The term is also sometimes used as a generic term for solids separated from suspension in a liquid; this 'soupy' material usually contains significant quantities of 'interstitial' water (between the solid particles). Sludge can consist of a variety of particles, such as animal manure.Industrial wastewater treatment plants produce solids that are also referred to as sludge. This can be generated from biological or physical-chemical processes.
In the activated sludge process for wastewater treatment, the terms "waste activated sludge" and "return activated sludge" are used.
In food processing and beverage-making industries, sludge can have high protein content and other nutrients that can be used for beneficial purposes such as animal feed, thereby avoiding disposal at a landfill.
I recently done a job in a bungalow of taking some rads off to let the lady paint behind them, and returned to put them back on. The woman said that she always had one cold rad while the rest were hot. I tried to bleed it but no air came out only water,so i turned all the others off to force heat...

Hello all - more on the saga of my new old home and my Combi System CH!! Having repaired the boiler I am now looking at flushing the system and adding fresh inhibitor. The water that comes out of the radiators is virtually clear - but I have seen posts that say it should be black in the presence...
Hi all,
Any advice on best way to flush a y plan system without using a powerflush?
Also concerning a blocked cold feed, where is the neutral point? Where the cold feed comes off the f+e tank and then joins the flow pipe in airing cupboard? Is the cold feed normally 15mm pipe? Wouldnt it fill...

Hi. Have been asked to look at a single pipe system which is out of balance. Don't have much esperience in them. The first two radiators on the circuit are hot as are two upstairs. The rest are cold or lukewarm.
What is the best method of balancing such a system?

Hi all,

Changed TRVs, on trying to fill the system realised that no water was coming in from...

Got a problem with above boiler. Customer reports she gets about 45 minutes use befoe it goes to lock out. Shows flame failure fault. Once it is reset works for another 40-45 mins befoe it happens again. Any ideas?
I cant actually find anything immediately wrong with it.

Whilst replacing a radiator recently, I noticed that the water is black & horrible. I have a couple more to replace shortly. I would like to flush my heating system before adding an inhibitor. Which are the best products to use, Fernox or Sentinel?
Thanks in advance.

I just cleaned out my DHW heat exchanger to fix a reduced flow problem in the hot water (all nice and hot-hot now). The amount of oxides (no sludge, just rust-like flakes and particles) which came out of the heat exchanger suggests to me that a good flush of my system would be recommended. Sound...
