general
A general officer is an officer of high rank in the armies, and in some nations' air forces, space forces, or marines. In some usages the term "general officer" refers to a rank above colonel. The term general is used in two ways: as the generic title for all grades of general officer and as a specific rank.
It originates in the 16th century, as a shortening of captain general, which rank was taken from Middle French capitaine général.
The adjective general had been affixed to officer designations since the late medieval period to indicate relative superiority or an extended jurisdiction.
Today, the title of general is known in some countries as a four-star rank. However, different countries use different systems of stars or other insignia for senior ranks. It has a NATO rank scale code of OF-9 and is the highest rank currently in use in a number of armies, air forces, and marine organizations.

It's relatively easy to weed out the snakes when you have people round to quote. Initially don't ask too many questions just observe their actions for example if I was to be installing a combination boiler in a property I would check the flow rate at 2 outlets 1...

I want to keep my bills down. Hardly ever use central heating. The installers set my hot water temp to around 53 degrees and the radiator heat to 60.
Would it save money if i reduced it from 60 to 50 or even 40? (once i figure out how!)
Also, if say the rad heat is set to 60 degrees and...

There are quite a few newbies on asking about pricing, how much they should charge etc.
Can we have a sticky thread with a GENERAL guide to pricing the most common jobs that plumbers do? Make it a closed thread so no spammers etc can post to it as well?
Would be a useful and very helpful guide...
Hi people. I'm a newbie to posting on this site but browse it often and find it extremely helpful! I was wondering if anybody had any advice for me on starting my own gas and central heating company. I mainly deal in boiler breakdowns, servicing and landlord gas certificates along with general...

Hey guys. Been to see a glowworm ultimate tonight. The fan has jammed and as a result the glass fuse had blown. Went to a local independant merchant to see if he had any fuses in stock. Got a fuse ready to replace when I fit the fan tomorrow but the new fuse has a marking saying f1A240v but the...
