Good flow rate low pressure taps

We have a gravity fed system in our bathroom, both hot and cold fed off the tanks in the loft. We wanted to put more modern taps in. We chose some Bristan single lever taps, designed for pressure down to 0.1bar but the flow rate is really poor. The old Ideal standard ones worked really well...

Leaking cistern on close coupled wc

Thanks for the tips, I've searched on google for those, they are quite common.... It's pretty crap that a brand new wc needs a additional kit to work properly though, it wasn't that cheap ! Thanks Tony

Leaking cistern on close coupled wc

We've installed a new close coupled wc in the bathroom. It is the type which have a rubber doughnut washer on the flush valve outlet to seal the flushing water flowing from the cistern flush valve to the pan, and two long plastic bolts which feed through two holes in the cistern bottom through...

    Advice on core drills

Just to finish off this post, I bought a cheap set of diamond cores, and they worked fine, nice clean holes, and in fact I also cut an extractor fan outlet with the same set. The clutch worked fine on the drill too when the bigger core got stuck.

    Advice on core drills

From what some posters say, using sds+ drills is risky with diamond core bits ? Is that because the bits or drills break ?

    Advice on core drills

I need to cut a couple of 40mm and a 32mm hole in a 9" solid brick wall over the next few weeks, and am weighing up buying tct or diamond core drill bits to drill these rather than renting from HSS or Jewsons's. I have an SDS+ drill with clutch already so the difference in cost is small, and I...

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

I think you have answered my question :-) The total length from trap to soil pipe is less than the 3m max regs figure for a 40mm pipe. And although there are vertical sections, I will meet the specified fall figures for the horizontal sections of the branch, so all is well. I may still use the...

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

I didn't think I mentioned an unvented soil pipe. The soil pipe is a standard 110mm pvc with the top end open to atmosphere. I was talking about venting the branch pipe if required ?

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

Ok, that's the bit the H1 regs do not mention anywhere that I can see :-) I did think if you had a long vertical fall there is a risk the trap could have it's water seal pulled out by the pressure caused by the water falling down the vertical pipe section ?

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

The building regs H1 quote the fall figures for an unvented branch pipe, as I understand it with a greater fall causes a higher water flow which means there's maybe enough negative pressure to empty the waste trap. If you vent a waste pipe then you can have a greater fall. The hepvo being dry...

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

It's only the bath, the basin is going into the other side of the soil pipe, with an offset. The basin is in the other corner of the room to the bath and wc sadly.

    Soil pipe branch pipe question

Hi, I did ask this question a few days ago, but I wasn't quite sure from the answers if what I was doing was ok. So I'm asking again with a specific question. This is sketch of the branch pipe I am proposing to fit. This is a 40mm bath waste pipe. The total fall is much higher than the building...

Coonnecting sink/bath wastes into soil pipe

So for sink/bath wastes, as long as the horizontal runs are within the Part H recommendations for fall all is ok, and using a small vertical fall is fine to get the horizontal falls within spec ?

Coonnecting sink/bath wastes into soil pipe

OK I can stagger the boss's. But in answer to my first question is it acceptable to have a short vertical run of waste pipe on the outside wall so that the long horizontal run is at the appropriate fall ~ 25mm per 1m ? Or is it ok to have an horizontal fall that is much more, say 50mm per m to...
