What is meant by the term a 'Pupped' fitting?

In short: A "Pup" is for 'bigger-boys' than me. Terminology for a short piece of butt-weld piping. As the man said, search 'pup pipe' instead of 'pupped' and you'll see lots on it.

What is meant by the term a 'Pupped' fitting?

Ah, thank you. If I'd known... forehead smackingly simple really. Only I was searching for 'pupped'. Look-up a 'pup' and all is revealed. Definitely more related to oil industry stuff, we're not going to find this doing anything in domestic work soon! And thank you for the obvious effort you...

What is meant by the term a 'Pupped' fitting?

Yes, that bit i get... I think? Seems these are used in water mains/ gas mains. Look like super-duper welded fittings. Here's a seller. I see they are a step-up on me lashing in a sink-waste with solvent, but why are they 'pupped'? Pupped Fittings Black - GPS

What is meant by the term a 'Pupped' fitting?

What is meant by the term a 'Pupped' fitting? I was looking thru' a fittings catalogue and saw if my heart desires, I may have my fitting 'Pupped'. Compression fittings I get, Yorkshire, Essex, Surrey etc I understand, and end-feed I like. But 'pupped'? I've searched t'interweb and can find...

Is there a way to add 2nd boiler to a different position on the heating circuit

A Dunsley Neutraliser is a pricey bit of kit for a what is really a tin can, but you'll need one. Done it. It's all the bits you don't think of, this set-up will not be cheap. And dependent on where you are, you'll struggle to find the bloke to do it. Solidfuel blokes, the Jockinese are good at...

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

Thanks all. How is that? I'd have it that a 'pump is a pump', I can see, if said pump was already fed at 1bar, it has less work to do, so we see more 'grunt' for our trouble, but what am I missing? Is that the only reason we need better kit?

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

Thank you . So in conclusion, a sealed-system's big advantage if I can find mains pressure to run it, is that, 1) Whilst some locations are better, at a push, I can put tanks broadly where I like. 2) In my case the HW tank will still find its way into the loft, simply because that's where...

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

I believe the cistern referred to there is the cold water tank. The (traditional type) hot water cylinder doesn't have a float valve. Yes, I'd need a horizontal cylinder to get headroom for the CW tank/ cistern above it?

    Start-up Bangs & shut-down pops AFTER service.

Sadly, with our first contestant, I don't think too much was to do with me. The ol' duffer? Went straight for the wing-nuts that hold the burner-bar in. Grinning that he remembered where they were, by feel. He just could.

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

So let me have this right. I put large tanks where I like, supply a sealed system pumped from this. I'm no fan of storing all that weight in my loft, and it won't be cheap or easy. If I go the sealed route, I've water at the pressure of my supply pump, stored somewhere safer? I can still move...

Like me, nearly decomposing, the old fossil clearly enjoyed it. It was obvious he'd seen a few... he just banged it off. Runs sweet.

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

I was ponderin' that one. Water won't form a point, it stays stubbornly level. But the roof does, I can pitch the vent in this space. It's tight, but not impossible.

For what I have have in mind pretty sure, your Dad's 'chippery' won't cut it. 1/2 ton on a supporting wall is OK, isn't it?

Why are Cylinders rarely in the loft for Trad. Gravity Vented Systems?

An unvented loses one tank, but unless I am missing this, it doesn't solve the real problem I have here, I still need a stonking great CW Tank etc to run this lot. Or does it?

That is a killer. With that requirement I'd need a horizontal cylinder.
