if is gutters then is your fault as you should have exstand flue to clear gutters and stick out 25mm ,not to late to stick new exstation on flue me think just make it his fault and get them to pay for it

no stan not my fault when I done it it was fine, and it extends out past the gutters by a good bit, but hes fitted new gutters and they are lower than the old ones and probably 5mm above the flue, so the 25mm is from the flue terminal then and not the actual flue pipe ??

got a phonecall today from a woman from HSE, they are looking into this and were wanting to contact the customer to get the details of previous owner, I think they are looking at prosecuting her as she was a landlady, and to try and find out who installed it.

3rd picture is the outer duct, rusted really badly, the flue wasnt even joined to the terminal and the pipe had no run in it and was also sagging in the middle, that's why the middle picture is all stained and the outer flue pipe is all rusted i believe. Couldn't finish repair tonight the 2 holes were practically in line with eachother so couldn't get my run back to boiler, will have to go back and make hole bigger to be able to get a decent run in the pipe, will probably have to use a long chisel and hammer while up on a ladder 3.5m up from ground.

Heres another one.

Visited a private rented house in which the newish tenant was reporting a smell of gas/fumes in her kitchen.

Found a combi in the kitchen cupboard. The inside leaf of the cavity was just a big chasm with lots of bricks missing and the insulation pouring out of it. There was also a hole in the outer leaf and the only seal was the outer neoprene seal around the flue which didnt cover the hole anyway. In addition, the meter fitted directly above it had no earthing, the wire was just flapping about and had never been connected. The blowoff had never been connected/piped to outside and the flue outlet was right beside the window !

The tenant said that a man had been out to "repair" the boiler only a few days previous as it hadnt worked properly since she moved in. No sign of a Landlords safety cert.

Another recently spotted...

DFE gas fire and repro cast iron type fireplace.

The semi circular hinged cast iron flap at the back of the fire opening can be flapped forward to totally close the flue outlet opening. There was also no permanent air vent. Custard said it was fitted by a local GSR firm and the guy had said to him that he must always remember to open the flap before turning the fire on..yeah right..

Anyone seen anything like this?

I have seen that before, but it was held open by slotting abit of 15mm copper across it. It needs to be permanently fixed open or removed, the one I saw just like yours just lifted out.

Went out on some new install inspections today, two neighbouring properties and I shut down both for the flue not being sealed.

No, it was a GSR reg'd company. Going to more tomorrow in that neighbourhood and wonder what I'll find.
