idd be tempted to cut it all back to the TEE and elbow and de solder it , once de soldered get the soldered ends as clean as possible , i tend to run a file over them and try to remove the solder, flexi file/ abrasive strips help too, not the scotch brite style ones, can you not cut them back...
no thats gash , you should have a 90 degree shut off valve that bolts/clamps into that hole , some times there packed up tightly inside the flush pipe??? what brand toilet is that?
obviously yours maybe different but every wall hung toilet iv done the flexy hose in the cistern stays in the cistern and threads on/in to there 90 degree shutoff valve which goes into the "hole" your talking about and then to the float valve ,

i wouldnt use a tap connector in this situation , {not to say you cant or its wrong} i prefer to use female irons and ptfe tape, you get a much bigger sealing surface area as opposed to a small rubber/fibre washer,
hate barrier pipe {jg/hep/polypipe etc etc} with an absolute passion! , the only pushfit system that i like is pegler yorkshire's tectite, its a MLCP pipe so it can be bent by hand and stays in that position and doesnt expand anywhere near as much in length as plastic does , comes in 15/22...
