Low loss header in a central heating system

Hi John, thanks for your reply The boiler is a Worcester System boiler so has its own pump. Each manifold also has its own pump but as they were originally paired to a GSHP there is no TMV as the water from the GSHP was generally cool enough for the UFH circuit. The cylinder is “always on” and...

Low loss header in a central heating system

This is our heating system that was originally installed to support a GSHP. The GSHP has since been replaced with a gas boiler but the UFH has never worked satisfactorily. My plan is to install a Low loss header in the system where shown on the sketch. Will this work?

    What would you do???

I spend my life doing loft conversions and generally we tile hang the dormers, no maintenance and matches the main roof. (35 yrs plus and probably 3 or 4 have been rendered) I'm assuming it's a flat roof dormer that's being built so I would go for slate grey plain tile hanging and white uPVC...

    Are plastic stop ends permanent?

As a collective bunch of supposededly professional plumbers the continuing witchhunt over plastic fittings never ceases to amaze me! I don't think there's one of us that's not come across a failed compression fitting or a soldered joint that's held pressure for many years with nothing but flux...

Think of the heat 3 100w lightbulbs emit and you'll have a good idea. (Now where can you still get 100w bulbs?)

    Heating Off Rads getting warm

In many systems, and almost certainly yours, the pump continues to run for a while after the boiler shuts off. The purpose of this pump overrun is to dissipate the heat generated by the boiler. By closing all the rads, unless the system has been provided with a bypass, you're preventing the...

If you could give one piece of advice to newly qualified plumbers, what would it be?

Plumbing would be a great career if it wasn't for water and customers!!

    Plastic pipe with flexihoses

It looks brass to me as well and also looks to have been cranked up overtight. I use copper olive, a metal support sleeve and a smear of hawk white if using plastic but ideally in your situation a short length of copper pipe between the ISO and the flexi

    hotun tundish anyone installed them

I always understood, but I stand to be corrected, that all TRV discharge pipe work had to be metal. But looking on the Hotun website it shows the tundish on the unvented cylinder connected to what looks like uPVC I have in the past used the Hepvalve with tundish adaptor connected to 22mm copper...

having problems removing rads with ancient valves

I'd be tempted to alter the pipework so that I could fit a pair of valves, a TRV one end and lockshield t'other.
