I’ve moved into a flat with L&Q and the cheap plastic toilet seat has already come loose. I cannot figure out how to fix it for the life of me, I’ve never seen anything like this before. I have no access to the underside so I can’t just tighten it like I usually would. I’ve attached some photos...
Morning I have a bio boiler with thermostore, This past couple of winters I have struggled to keep temp up so I went and bought a 2nd hand combi GRANT boiler. Is there anyway it can be converted to work as a system type boiler with some sort of thermostatic switch to allow it to kick in when...
Hi due to a leak in diverter valve I bought a diverter valve kit and changed all the components after cleaning out the bloc. I also took off the heat exchanger whilst i was inside the boiler and gave it a complete descale.

I’m trying to replace a top fixing toilet seat but can’t figure how to dismantle the existing one. There’s no brand name found anywhere including for the main toilet. Photo attached. It’s not the easy push in/pull out type and not soft closing. The tiny screws (circled) won’t turn - knackered. I...
I've removed one or two before and all I did was attack them with increasing frustration until they sort of started to come off. I presume there actually is a way to painlessly remove them? Or are they badly designed enough that they just get stuck solid once fixed in place?
Thanks
Hey everyone, I've dealt with a few bad airlocks over the years but was wondering if anyone had any good tricks to get them out faster/easier.
I've always been told to just leave it on constant until it settles and another time we had this plumber help us and he removed the thermostats on the...
Hi, our Ecocent Maxi 3001 boiler needs fixing. It comes on for a few seconds then blows the electrics. The immersion does work though when the boiler is on standby so we can get hot water. The manufacturer has indicated they assume the problem is the capacitor or the compressor. We’d like...
This is interesting, when fixing a rad I tend to not use the supplied fixings and just use my own. I use Rawlplug Uno brand as I think you get a really good grip.
Any Rawlplug nerds will find this video interesting.
I have to fix a new toilet to my daughter's downstairs toilet. She has just had the floor retiled. The house has piped underfloor heating. I am just a bit concerned about screwing the pan to the floor and whether the pipes will be far enough down not to worry. The previous wc was plugged and...
Hi there,
I live in an old 70s council block and I have been told that these taps are the original fixings. They are leaking so I assume a washer needs to be replaced but my plumber said it can't be done with this type and we need to replace the taps completely which would require ripping out...
We recently had a leak in the water supple pipe between an external water meter and the where the pipe enters the building. The leak occurred where the pipe ran underneath the entrance walkway (about 600-700mm deep). Once we excavated and found the leak, we found it was at a joint in the pipe...
Has anyone ever heard of the national grid fixing leaks in someone's home?

Hi,
I'm trying to fix a small 'Baby Belfast' style ceramic sink securely on top of a solid wood countertop but not sure of the best way. Has someone done this before?
The sink has a flange around where the threaded drain connection is, so it requires a square-ish hole of around 6" x 6" to be...
