hi all, Just been to see a job that I am starting next week, the mains pipe is on pipe that looks like overflow pipe, rather then copper or plastic, I need to cut into it and convert to copper somewhere. Any idea what it is? the whole building is run from 1 mains pipe and boilers in boiler room. so need to get fittings before they turn water off, cant really go and get fittings. other option is to try and clamp the pipe to stop it snapping whilst I loosen the stop tap up.

Could be acorn pipe! If it is solvent abs you will need to find a local merchant that stock the lead lock type compression fitting. Few housing estates up our end where it was used. Think it's about 18mm

It sounds like durapipe. You can buy adaptors or disconnect it from a valve or somewhere with a thread and renew it from there.

exactly what it is, apparently suitable for water, but I would never use it

If its glued grey plastic, it probably is Poly-orc (not sure how its spelt) but I thought they stopped making that 30+ years ago. Pig of a system - IIRC you had to let the glue cure overnight.

This was on a new build site, pretty simple to use was either from wolseley or bes I think .

Pretty sure you can get plastic compression fittings for it, or transition pieces to take it to copper etc.
