You can use lead locks then.

Is it a rod of Solder or is leaded solder ok to wipe as this should be the easiest option rather than trying to fit 2 leadlocs/philmacs and a piece of plastic.

Providing they're DZR and connecting piece is suitable for underground. Obviously not much of a problem for above ground and internal.

@mutley racers - for me it would be utc or similar, I’ve never wiped a joint.

I'm old enough to have wiped many lead joints mostly to put new stop on.
Solder was grade D turnpin to make flange clamps to hold it together wiping cloth tallow as flux.
Thank goodness now long gone!

Turnpin was /are a cone shaped lump of wood normally boxwood, tap into end of lead pipe creates a flange.
Plus remember we were doing this with a petrol fired blow lamp!

Found behind a old galv tank with a old wiping cloth and a nub of cande.
Don't think guy how lost it will now be bothered.

Still got plenty of those in different sizes as well as the clamps, cloths, bent pins, lamps, dummies etc.
All museum pieces now.

Only lead work we do now is stone gutter caulkings and the odd flashing or a pipe repair.

Last time I spoke to a college tutor for Plumbing he told me they don't teach any lead work anymore!!
How can the new guys be Plumbers?

Apparentl, when I sat my NVQ level 3, we were told then that they were no longer teaching lead-work in college, I asked what it was being replaced with, the answer was “renewable technology“.

How does renewable tech replace a lead pipe or lead flashings? Or did they mean new materials?

Fast fit flashing eg pre made unfortunately there’s no point in them teaching it as it would never get used with a combi slinger

It doesn’t. I took it to mean, that instead of teaching lead as a subject as part of the curriculum, it would be replaced with renewable tech.
