Hi All,

I am fairly new to plumbing even though I am 58, I have completed the C&G level 2 course and hope to do the level 3 course by the end of the year. At my age it would be difficult getting employment which would be best for me to get experience, so I am working for myself doing small jobs.

I turned down a job to fit a pump for a power shower to 2 ensuite bathrooms as it appeared to big a job for me with my experience. However I would like to know where the hot & cold water for the ensuites would run in general. The house was quite big with the HWC and CWT at one end and the 2 ensuite bathrooms at the other end with a long corridor in between. The house was quite modern so it had MDF flooring, as far as I could see I could easily fit the pump in to the airing cupboard but I would have to take up most of the flooring in the corridor to feed the pipes from the pump to the area of the ensuites. Would you expect to find the hot and cold feeds to the ensuite shower, sink & toilet to be separate outside of the ensuites or would they go under the floor of the ensuites as 2 pipes and be teed off under the floor of the ensuites?

Thanks for any response.

Mick

I didn't investigate too far because as soon as I saw the house I knew the job was too big for me without somebody with me who had done similar before, so I told the customer I wasn't able to do it. I did look in the loft and that was mainly boarded out, I couldn't see any pipework other than that for the CWT and the F&E tank. It is just out of interest that I would like to get an idea where all the pipes run in general in a large house with this set up.

Generally, think of the landing as being the road to dig up.

The main part of the heating circuit will be under the landing floor with tees going off to the bedrooms and drops going downstairs. The hot and cold water supplies tend be near these runs too, saving from digging up too many floors. And to add some flavour, all the wires seem to end up under the landing floor too!!

This is only a general layout though. As houses are modified over the years, different people will do different things, some of which are logical and some leave you well puzzled.

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
