I was working at an office block in Surrey last year and they had solar panels fitted on the roof. I think they needed regular cleaning (by specialists) to maximise their efficiency.

Not sure solar panels are a good investment. How much do they cost? How long would it take to get a worthwhile return on the outlay?

Unless I`m misreading your post surely that depends on size of area to be used and who you talk to.

Isn`t the idea to subsidise your leccy bill whiles saving the planet at the same time. I think you can feed excess power back into the grid, isn`t that right?

What mean is, if you spend £10 000 on panels and fitting, will that save you money? Lets say you took that same sum off the mortgage, wouldn`t you be better off? Would there be much in it?

they look good but cost not released yet but each one of their battery back up stores cost £5000.00 so would expect a full south facing roof is going to cost something like £20000.00 plus
think they will be good for new build when budgetted for but not sure about retro fitting to existing, what would be the payback time.
