Stopcock and Gate Valve position Query

Good morning,

I would appreciate any advice on the following: I live on the 2nd floor (top floor of building) and have a stopcock under my kitchen sink, one stopcock for water near the boiler in the kitchen and in the hallway in a high cupboard a cold water feed red gate valve. I want to know how much is each stopcock/gate valve meant to be turned on, fully, half or other.
Any information would be great, thank you.

Traditional (multi-turn) gate valves and stop-cocks should be opened fully and then closed about a quarter-turn. (This make seizing open less likely to occur.)

Chuck is correct, just be gentle, preventative maintenance is a squirt of WD 40 on the shaft
on the gland fitting under the wheel head and do every so often ...like when Everton win a football game ...close the valves and open them as above...because when you really want them they can and do seize up like all mechanical devices....chking. do not do this when LFC win as you will wear out the device...
