Water is constantly running through the cold pipe that leads directly from my stop tap through a few meters of pipe along and then upstairs. I can clearly hear it (and so can the rest of the family)and feel the vibration caused by the flow of water through the pipe. When I turn the stop-cock off it stops. Nothing is turned on. Toilets are full and not leaking. No problems with anything water-using fixture save a slight drop in pressure you'd expect when more than one appliance is being used at the same time. After hours of searching no signs of a leak anywhere. And this has been going on all weekend so if there was a leak I'd presume water'd be everywhere given the sound is noticeable. No wet ceilings, no sound of spraying water under floorboards etc. Very confused as I think I've eliminated everything. Can anyone help please?

How old is the property, could easily be a leak under the floor, any signs of damp around the outside of the property.

It's a mid 50's council property. Concrete floors. No signs of a leak from upstairs. The bathroom is directly above a part of the kitchen where I know water would come through (previous with son!). Celing plasterboard is dry and solid - sounds hollow when I tap it. Pressure in shower is lower than normal but still working fine. No sound of a leak from bathroom but it's the only water up there (upside down glass on shower tray etc). Could it be an external leak simply transmitting sound along the pipe? Thanks

50s council house. No signs of an internal leak and the sound has been there all weekend. Bathroom is directly above kitchen and from previous with son (!) I know where water would leak through. Ceilings are solid and hollow sounding when I tap them. No signs of an external leak, but could the sound from an external leak transmit along the pipe? (when I turn the stop tap off the same vibration is still on the external side). Thanks

Yes it could be an underground burst, but I remember correctly it usually goes louder if you turn it off at your internal stopcock.

Thanks Pete - but nothing in the loft. No overflows, no water running away externally, just the sound and vibration of water going through the internal pipe when nothing water-related is being used. I can't fathom it....

Hello all, I'm would like to extend an existing outside tap to another point in the garden. I'm about to pour a concrete patio and was hoping to run the water line underneath. There are existing drain (and who knows what) pipes running along the same wall so I'm nervous about digging too far...

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
