Are we classed as Key Workers? (Plumbers/Heating Engineers) Getting conflicting messages...
It matters not, I cannot see a policeman or soldier restricting our activities attending call outs.
As long as the truck is sign written and or we have papers these boys will let us go by.
It will be the same approach as in Northern Ireland when there were checkpoints. I know a bit I was
There around and about centralheatking

Think an 18 year old with underlined health condition has been the youngest in the uk. Joe Rogan has a specialist on his podcast and he seemed to think it will be 15 times worst than a bad flu season with 250,000 plus deaths worldwide. He said data was showing over 40's and the percentage goes up quite alot.

Im now in self isolation, I have my mother living with me and she is nearly 80 and has stage 4 lung cancer. I can't risk bringing it back to her as I don't think she would survive it. I started Friday and I'm already bored, be out of bread and milk in 2-3 days.

I've already done 1 job from home, I soldered up some pipework tails for a customer for them to change there own sink taps. Worked a treat.

Be save everybody, take it seriously and protect your family.

And the hhic says exactly the opposite.
What’s hhic please

well done You have made the same decision i would have made regarding my parents ...they passed on years ago. Don’t be bored talk to us or me if you like I am about most mornings from 4am ..pm me and we can do my email if you like ..regards Rob Foster

Morning chaps sitting here watching the early morning news this cronavirus business is really getting a hold now , two families I know have had holiday's cancelled to Spain, this is going to effect us all personally and business wise I am lucky enough to have a shower upgrade a weeks work for a retired couple who are happy to have me in their home , then a full gas central heating job in a empty property to do so won't effect my work situation for the next 3 weeks or so. I have a elderly mother with asthma who lives alone who I am obviously conserved about she lives a 2 hour drive away and getting her to stay in will drive her stir crazy I am seriously considering bring her to stay with us for a month or so, how are you all coping with the problem ? Supermarket shelves are being stripped of basic essentials and I can see this getting worse your opinions please gentlemen. Keep well regards kop
You might be too late but I booked online shopping and that’s worked in the last two weeks
Your problem is coming back if she is at your home if you can’t keep 2 metres from everyone.
My daughter returned home after catching it at school and my wife is in the added risk group.
We all have it but so far it has been mild and if we get through it we should be immune for the rest of the year.
It’s tough but we are using social media to keep in touch - expect letter stating stay in for 3 months any day noe

Now watching Boris on TV he's brought in even more restrictions people just didn't take it seriously enough over the weekend we are heading for full lockdown by the look of it , I spoke to my mother tonight and she not coping very well and it's only a few days in really don't know what to do for the best ? Kop

Well, that's good. So the UK is now where we (Italy) were on the 11th as far as restrictions go (though it's less clear how the authorities are going to police things), but the UK has half the official cases Italy had back then.

Which hopefully means the UK should be able to manage things better than Italy has been able to, due to taking action relatively sooner.

Hoorah!

PS Italy has put plumbers down as an essential service and plumbers can continue to go to work. In practice, most people are scared and won't want plumbers in their houses for non-essential work.

The key wording seemed to be "You can travel to and from work only if you can't work from home"

Now obviously we can't work from home and nor can most trades.

However if the merchants close because they are a "non essential business" then the materials will dry up... so the building sites may close....?

I was trying to find the figures on how long the virus lasts on surfaces, the best I could find was...

4hrs on copper
24hrs on card
48hr on stainless steel
72hrs on plastic

albeit the amount of active virus remaining after 72hrs is miniscule (0.1%), still if you can arrange some of your work accordingly it may helpful.

Hi Rob, @centralheatking could I get into this type of work? What qualifications/certificates are required?
Cheers Jim
I understand it’s all regulated by BOC no surprise there, but for experienced fellas it is a bit of a tick box exercise and a practical remember. It’s not soldering but brazing but with good quality medical quality fittings all individually wrapped but essentially the same stuff but really expensive. And health service standards apply to all the work. We did alright out of it Centralheatking

Yep same here, last job today then that’s me done til who-knows-when. I’ve told all the landlords I won’t be doing gas safety checks for a bit but will still go out to emergency stuff. Testing times ahead now, hope it doesn’t last too long or I’ll be proper skint.

“it’s all right for you mate, you’re self employed you can do what you want” my pal used to say that to me all the time!!... Hmmmm!!

Stay safe lads 👍🏻

I would not allow a gas inspection to become out of date if it was my tenants. I just know should the worse happen I would still end up in the dock.

On a separate note, can’t see why construction guys working way up high in the fresh air can’t continue. P Morgan sat at very close quarters talking s***

They are currently being delayed not cancelled. Gas safe are still waiting for an answer on Landlord checks from the HSE. But I think that it is correct they are delayed for now.

One of the issues which I hope will be looked at after things get back to normal. Is the total lack of cash reserves by really quite large companies ...they cry wolf after 3 days and yet pay their investors dividends. Also it might be a heads up to everbody to try and look a bit beyond their next pay check and just save a little for a rainy day instead of expensive coffee to go and £40 per month phones

I wish my phone was £40.00 a month.
I thought there are flat rate use as much as you can deals. I have a couple of phones and a landline but use email via WiFi at home and anywhere I can get it...even follow buses if it’s a bigger package and wait while they stop. I don’t think we spend £40 per month total inc BT. Don’t buy expensive coffee at £3.oo a tub and always take my own sandwiches unless invited out to Lunch

Perhaps the reason for the high cost is buying the phone on a contract and getting the data you may need for eg IOMs when needing information on the go? Though I own my own (non-smart) phone and pay £6 a month myself, I appreciate this isn't for everyone.

Why is it that the individual needs money for a rainy day but when banks or large companies struggle they come cap in hand to the taxpayer? Remember the billions that went to the banks 2010? One thing I'm glad to see in this crisis is money actually going to the people that need it and from a tory government! Wonders never cease :p

Banks and big business will be getting their cut first, don't you worry...
Just look at all the money held in solicitors client accounts because nobody can buy or sell houses but they will earn interest on that money. Then there are large companies who have paid massive dividends out recently but now need government .help to carry on. Example Rick Stein with places everywhere charging the earth now closed down is not paying his staff anything...this all sucks and I am not a socialist but self employed but with some resources only because I am old....I hope the fall out from this crisis changes everbodies outlook for ever after it’s moved on

We will think about your family and yes a bit more put into the NHs is obviously a foregone conclusion after all this and all due respect must be given to the forgotten but vital workers in society whom we now really value.

If it hasn't been mentioned car and van MOT's have been exempted for 6 months, my tester told me after handing me my fail certificate with a bundle of work to have done a couple of weeks back grrrr.
.

Just a quick update my Brother in Law is home this evening resting as he is still quite weak my Sister posted on social media that it was very emotional as all the staff lined the corridor and applauded him for surviving this dreadful virus.......my Brother continues to make a slow recovery although he's still in Hospital....and my Son is recovering at home from his severe chest infection...God Bless all the staff frontline and those behind the scenes they make us proud and to all those key workers that have kept us all going at this very difficult time.......take care of yourselves and your families..regards Turnpin

Got furloughed for three weeks (all those outstanding jobs at home got done!!! -well, mostly :) ) now been back at work for a month: despite the lockdown we've still got tons of enquiries coming in, the estimators ae working from home trying to look after their kids and turn out a zillion tenders at the same time. Load more of our fitters are coming back as sites reopen, however still got most of the office staff either furloughed or working from home.
