Simple and Easy-to-use Programmer

Hi everyone,

I am trying to find a go to programmer for my elderly customers mainly, it needs to be very simple to use and have a big well lit screen. I did used to install the drayton Mitime which i thought were great. But they have stopped them

Anyone got any recommendations??

I always find the older customers like the programmer to be on and then control their heating with the room stat, or a simple on off switch.

I use salus programmers but the newer ones aren't as easy to use as the older ones.

I opt for a simple timer for Hot Water and Central Heating with an analogue thermostat ( a knob).

With thermostatic valves on the rads, it seems to hit the mark.

The main issue I find with older people, is not the complexity of the controller, but that the size of the buttons (and the visibility of the screen) is the limiting issue.

With some customers, Evohome hits the mark, where the son or daughter can control the heating / hot water remotely.

Or the Siemens rwb range isn’t bad. It has sliders and once set doesn’t need adjusting really.

My mum has a programmer that she just presses up or down on, and it changes the target temperature. Nice and easy. No programming needed because she just sets it to 16 if she goes out or bed time etc.

I'll try to find the name of it later. But I think the lads on here will know the type and recommend one perhaps.

Not just the old folks, that's how I like to control my central heating too. Gas combi set to always on, control it with the dial-type stat in the hall. To me it's just like lighting the fire when I want it, just cleaner and easier. If it's cold I whack it on when I come in from work, turn it off again via the stat before bed.

Many people seem to like doing it this way. It can be a bit cold in winter when I first get up in the morning but it only takes 10 minutes to start feeling the heat after turning the dial up, especially if I send the Mrs down first to switch it on. She's actually tougher than me when it comes to the cold.

personally i dont like siemens, find they are far over complicated and go wrong a lot, same with danfoss feel they are not easiest to use.

I like a programmer i can work out without reading the manual, like most honeywell and drayton. not installed salus before so will take a look. For me the best programmer was drayton mitime found everything logical and all my customers found it easy to use also whilst giving lots of options. Gutted they have stopped it.

Phex next month so will be testing them all out up there

Center brand programmable RF room stat.
Have heating on constant & manual setting & control temp via x2 buttons on front.
Attach card with temp's on outside, day time temp - 20 degree's & night time temp - 12 or 14 degree's celsius.
As long as they don't muck around & lift flap/cover no issue's.
Holiday setting 6 degree's.
No probs with customer's to date once they get used to it & good price for what it is.

I fit the Drayton digi-stat 3, large display 7 or 5/2 day preset program's and simple up or down temp control if program target temp not to their liking. Good price as well.

Don't fit anything else but Honeywell ST9400c. Nice big backlit screen and big text. Easy to program with the slider on the side and time changes on clock change over automatically. Extra Hour button and separate override button.

Buy the 7 Day version and put it in 24 hour mode/ 2 on/offs per day for elderly customers. Never seem to have any issues.
