After a while (6mths or so) the pop up wastes I have fitted seem to leak slightly and drip water into the cabinets.

What can I do to prevent this happening again. I have tried thread tape on the threads of the locating nut and even on the plastic insert that the ball (of the pop up lever) presses into but it still weeps (again after a few months of use). The fittings are all hand tight (much tighter and the pop up is very stiff to use).

thanks

I don't even fit them any more as they always seem to leak, jam or come apart.I fit the push up and down ones ,never had a call backs for them

Plumbers mait around the thread just under the hole in the waste thread always does the trick. Silicone the waste in too both on top of the washer and under the chrome around the top. Make double sure the plastic ball and its surrounding case are in the correct way round too. Hand tight plus a quater turn with the pump grips , hold the top in with some long nose pliers.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I do except I use thread tape and not plumbers mait. Cant really see how that makes the difference though.

I have the same issue apart form i fitted mine this weekend. I don't want to do it any tighter or else I feel the waste wont work with the lever or the thread/cover will break.
Any up date on this? waste.JPG

Wrap the ball in ptfe tape (one or two turns) normally sorts it

click clack is the way to go - my local merchants no longer sell pop up type - they cause too many probs

Also make sure that the little plastic white washer that goes next to and against the ball has not cracked/disintergrated or disappeared down the drain. This sometimes happens

I has the fitting apart at the weekend and there was only one plastic part (outer) so I got hold of the inner plastic part and fitted this with a wrap of PTFE tape on the ball and both plastic parts and on the thread - if it still leaks (not at this time) I'll swap it for the push popup type.
Thank you for all your help.

This is very simple tho it took me ages to figure it! When assembling it put silicone GREASE on the ball and cups then do the cover nut up and then nip it up. The silicone allows it to move very freely, doesn't get washed away and doesn't harm the plastic. Been doing that for 6 years now and not had a single call back.

Mind you, I do change my number every two weeks... :p

Use a poly washer underneath with silicon before the nut. No leaks

I have a plumber coming tomorrow to change a cartridge on a badly dripping tap on my bathroom mixer unit. There is no separate isolating valve for this tap so I'll have to close the stopcock. I tried closing it today but it won't go absolutely 100% closed and there is still a very slight flow...
