Old Bath Copper Waste Pipe

Hi, a friend was complaining about water dripping through her kitchen ceiling. Turns out that the bath waste pipe is leaking. I've not seen copper pipe used as a bath waste before. I have smeared some silicon around the join but I need to fix this. I think best to hacksaw the old tee section away and replace with new pipe, either end feed or compression. Can anybody advise the best approach for a fix?

I don't want to mess about with the bath waste for fear of never getting a good seal or even removal. Is this 1.5 inch diameter pipe? There is no trap as the waste feeds directly outside picking up the basin waste on its way out.

Does anybody recognise this type of waste fitting?

Looks like lead pipe to me, a Fernco coupling is your only option afair for an off the shelf purchase or @ShaunCorbs recommendation is basically the same thing.

What are those wiped joints if not lead then? Definitely some copper though. Looks to be a combination of materials, or is that my inexperience?

Copper waste, lead overflow.

It would (or should) originally have had a trap.
Looks like brass fittings, copper pipe, lead overflow pipe from here.

The right way to do it is to dismantle it and remake it or replace it.

In the state it is in and as a very temporary measure so they can use the bath I would clean up the swaged joint (I presume that's the leaking joint)? on the outside (inc tail), wrap a wet rag around the lead lip joint, tin the copper and wipe a joint over the swaged section and tail (Grade D).

It isn't the right thing to do as I said but I would be advising replacement and the addition of a trap anyway.

They could keep the bath and it is sometimes possible to use a compression waste connection on the copper if it is clean and round.
