Has anybody had any experience welding a leaking water jacket, I have a grant vortex external boiler which is leaking through the bottom of the water jacket. My neighbour is a welder and has said if I can get the tank out he will put a weld on it and pressure test it. Just wondering how easy it is to get the tank out?

Not that easy but if you have realistic expectations eg you may require a new boiler after as it may not go back together

Which model Grant? Heat only? System? Combi? How old?
It’s a grant vortex 26 combi boiler. It is fairly old in all fairness 10+ years, but would like to prolong a new boiler for as long as possible as money is fairly tight at the moment I’ve also spent money in recent years so it’s relatively good apart from the leaking tank…

I guess all pipework/insulation needs to be removed before being able to remove the water jacket?

So is it main heat exchanger or heat store leaking?
If its heat store may be worth a go
Main hex one forget it!
Just for your information we are Grant registered installer's so I do know the boilers. Also I was at one point I had a G6 welding ticket so know the possible issues involved with welding.

It’s the heat store sorry, I’ve removed some of the insulation at the back and it does look fairly corroded.

What’s the difference between the heat store and main hex?

Thanks I appreciate your knowledge and advice.

First you have been fairly unlucky to get a leak we change on average 2 oil boilers a week .
So far only changed one vortex pro and that had been incredibly badly installed.
It would certainly take longer to drain down/strip boiler than replace it completely.
Going by what I've seen on Worcester's with leaking heat store's almost certainly main hex will have external rusting at base.
Have the auto air vents been leaking by any chance?
Your only going to know how state of play by stripping it down
Personal I would plan for replacement.

The auto air vents haven’t been leaking as far as I’m aware. I have attached a picture of the rear of the hot water store and what I assume is the main hex.
