Leaking compression joint with plastic pipe.

Yes, it me again.
I have a leaking compression joint that is connected to plastic pipe. I have now read elsewhere that it is not a good idea to connect plastic into compression joints. It DID have an insert in the plastic pipe.

I decided to use plastic JG speedfit pipe in the compression because the other end of the plastic pipe feeds into a JG Speedfit equal tee. I thought that this would be better because I could use the JG Speedfit superseal inserts at the tee end.

Would I be better fitting copper pipe into the compression and feeding the other end of the copper into the JG Speedfit equal tee?

Or should I just remove that section of pipe and redo the compression joint, again using plastic, perhaps this time with PTFE tape.

Can Fernox Water Hawk be used on plastic?

Shouldn’t need jointing tape or compound on a compression fitting. How bad is it leaking? Copper would be better, depends on what you wan to spend out.

Which insert did you use the one with an oring ?

With the correct insert (speed fit have 2 sorts, one specifically for compression), a compression joint with plastic is fine.

Attached is the two types of insert available and there uses , I have to omit on occasion I have put a few wraps of PTFE tape around the olive into a compression fitting when connecting to speed fit pipe but very rarely, I don't really like to mix fittings to much . Regards Kop

Hi all those who have contributed.
So, a little embarrassing. I hadn't actually tightened that particular compression joint. I'd done 14 joints that day, all hopefully ok, but obviously missed that one. I could almost turn it by hand it was that loose. My feeling is that I left it loose to align angles etc, but forgot to nip up. The water has been on for an hour and no leaks yet. It's a hot water pipe, so just waiting to see if any change when cold.

Easily done with multiple joints, at least you’ve found it, admitted it, and can move on
