Hi

New here, so hello to all.

I am to replace a kitchen mixer tap which has been in since the house was built 4 years ago.

Upon inspection, the plumbing doesn't include isolation valves so I need to cut off all water to the house.

Before I go ahead and fit this I want to take the opportunity to fit isolation valves or service valves.

Can someone advise the best way given there's plastic pipes with a compression fitting in place? Better to add an isolation valve to the existing one or remove the old and put the isolation valve in new? Not done this before and not sure if the existing isolation nut/olive can be simply re-tightened?

I posted a pic of a service valve which could do the job I believe.

Posted some pics to show the existing fittings. The 90 degree fitting is on the hot feed from the combi boiler.

The tap is astracast and looks like 1/2 inch fittings.

Remove the clip from the plastic elbow. Remove the plastic pipe and replace with copper and full bore isolatation valves. A little more copper and 2 x 15mm x 1/2” compression couplers then flexis that come with the tap.

In addition to the full bore iso valves, you will need 15mm compression to 1/2" BSP male couplers. It will end up looking like the bottom picture but will be a MUCH more secure & safe connection.

Do not reuse the existing olives. Do as Harvest has said and use copper pipe.

Thanks all. Easy enough to remove the plastic pipe from below (press down ring isn't it?)?

Does copper pipe fit the plastic coupler ok without damaging seals and a pipe slice a must too?

So a short copper pipe, 90deg compression iso valve then BSP fitting? What are these BSPs btw?

Thanks again!

Hi Anyone know of a pull out kitchen tap that has decent pressure? I have had low pressure from this tap for a number of years and it's not helped with the two 10mm tails that must reduce even further. Hoping something is around that I can use 15mm full bore tails and isolating valves but all...

I had an outside tap fitted by a professional plumber last autumn. During the recent cold weather the feed pipe under the kitchen sink froze and the compression joint where the pipe enters an isolation valve now leaks. The outside tap was covered for the winter by an insulating blanket. I...

I need to replace the washer of my kitchen mixer tap as it is leaking. I was able to remove the spout once by unscrewing the screw on the back of the tap. However now I can't remove it again as it seems I must have used the wrong screw head and have rounded off the head. Please see attached...

I have a kitchen mixer tap with quarter turn levers and the cold side started dripping. I took out the ceramic valve and replaced it with one from Screwfix but it hasn’t solved the problem it still drips. Could it be a dodgy valve or is it something else? Thanks

I live in an apartment block where generally hot water is supplied from the communal hot water cylinder and cold water to bathrooms is supplied from cold water tanks in the loft. It is a vented system. However, in a basement flat and a ground floor flat cold water supply to bathrooms is...
