Hello,

I am stumped on this after spending hours trying and retrying to make resolve a leak. I installed an RKF CWF028-MB bathroom Faucet fixture. I can't get it to stop leaking between the jam nut and threads on the drain tailpiece. I've included two pictures. Everything else is fine. I've installed sink fixtures before so this isn't a new experience for me. There is no standing water in the sink and yet it drips for a long time afterward. It seems that there is some play in the bolt when I screw it in but I've used plenty of sealing tape. It is also plenty tight. I don't know how the water is pooling outside the drain but inside the sink (or how it got there). The flange appears to be sealed well against the sink bottom. I used the silicone sealing washer that came with the kit. For some reason, the instructions said not to use plumbers putty as it might damage it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

-Gerald

No point in using tape there so remove it when you remove the nut & washer as the problem lies with the washer which isn`t sealing. We all have ways of sealing the joint and I expect most will say a smear of silicone above the washer and some will say change the washer.
Use the search box for leaking basin to get an idea.

If wastes are 1 1/4'' in the US then you will 100% sort it out with a basin mate, I had a basin that wouldn't seal after 2 attempts a year or so ago and one of these sorted it out. I keep a couple on stock now, for the price they're a no-brainer.
Basin Mate 1 1/4 - https://www.toolstation.com/basin-mate/p37534
I wasn't aware of this product. Thank you for pointing it out. Yes, my drain is 1-1/4 US. Unbelievably, I cannot find a Basin Mate or equivalent in the US (not on Amazon, Home Depot or Lowe's). I've tried different search parameters using words like sink, gasket, basin, etc. and no luck. Are you toolstation.com and if so, do you ship to the US? In the meantime, I will keep searching.

Thank you again for you comment. It's really helpful.

Thank you! I will search and see what others have to say.

To be sure, you mean that the 1/2" sausage should be between the nut and seal the goes into the basin? So from the bottom of the basin, I would have the seal, then putty and then nut?

Thank you for the reply!

should go

sink
Sausage aka plumbers putty
Washer
Nut

hope this helps

I'm not toolstation.com (wish I was), found one on amazon that delivers to the US:

Hey JCplumb, thank you for working with me on this! I checked the link you sent and unfortunately, they don't ship to the US right now (see screen capture in the upper right). However, I will contact the seller and see what I can find out. This forum has given me some good ideas and I will attack this problem again later in the week.

Again, I appreciate the advice. Have a good day!

Just following up on this thread. It took me a few weeks to revisit the sink problem as I decided to order another faucet/drain set. Then I let it sit around because I think I was emotionally scarred from my last experience - LOL. At any rate, the faucet and drain are in and there are no leaks. Yay!

I have now purchased two new toilets. The renovation continues :)

Thanks all for the help - it really was help!

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
