Hot water tank thermostat

Hi, can anyone advise a quality brand of thermostat, mine recently failed and I fitted a 'Backermatic' supplied by a local plumber but it does not work properly. The water is either totally boiling or cold with a tiny adjustment.

Thanks, a very fast response. No I have not done that, he is rough and I would rather go buy one online and fit myself.
