Hi. We have a baxi boiler conventional hot water system. We noticed that when the controller has hot water only selected that the radiators too get hot. I put this down to a faulty midway valve as the indicator on the valve was on w but both outlet pipes were hot. So yesterday we got a man in to drain down the system and fit a new valve. But this morning we still have the same issue. What could the problem be?

When you turn heating on indicator will move to h

When you do hot water only will move to w

Does it do this ?

Yes. When the hot water is on the indicator will be on w. When the heating is selected the indicator is on h. With them both on the indicator will be on m

Sounds like the valve or the pump could be pushing past the valve

Unknown. We've only lived here since January and it's been like this since we turned the heating off when the weather got nice.

Could be a system fault then

This is what I mean. Before I accuse him if fitting a dodgy valve. Is there any other reason this could be happening?

Do all radiators get hot, or just certain ones? Could be what is known as reverse circulation.

The heated towel rails and the rad in the hall nearest the boiler seem to heat up fastest. The rads in the kids rooms are still off so I cannot comment on those.

Is there some kind of non return valve that may have gone faulty?

Doubt it, sounds like reverse circulation maybe occurring, which is a result of the original pipework installation. A photo of pipework arrangement in cylinder cupboard may help us point you in the right direction.

Don't really know what I'm looking for as it just looks a mess if pipework so I'm just merrily snapping away. Please let me know if you would like me to take a pic of something specific. Chris

Not taking sides, but if the work just charged for hasn’t fixed the problem shouldn’t the OP be addressing his concerns to the plumber who did the work?

Good pics, try taking left hand side of cylinder a bit further back so we can follow pipes better

Did the guy change the valve or just the motorised bit on top?

Both. I've got the old one so I know It was done.
