Hi All,

I am a keen but amateur plumber but have completed 50% of a C&G 6129 tech course
and hope to be able to complete the rest of it when I have time hopefully soon'ish. I enjoy helping people and I currently do a little volunteer work for Age Concern in my area with small and basic plumbing jobs to help out our older population who may not have funds to be able to upkeep the properties, I enjoy it and hope to continue to do so.

So, I have read a few posts here and was alarmed to hear that the 6129 is being withdrawn, especially as I am staring redundancy in the face as I work for local government and what with all the budget cuts there are many many people who will be made redundant no matter what anyone else tells you it is happening.

If this does happen I hope to be able to secure some sort of work somewhere and will probably offer my services/assistance as a plumbers mate for free for 3-6 months depending on what payout I am given. I hope this will be an incentive to someone in the Slough area to let me lend them a hand and learn while I am at it. The other alternative is to see what the government will offer with regards to retraining, it may be an option but have no idea at present. I should say I am 40 years olds old witha family so not working for the rest of my days would be nice but not an option!

I'll keep reading threads here and hope to chat with more experienced plumbers and tradesman also.

Thanks for reading.

Best wishes to all.

I have a plumber coming tomorrow to change a cartridge on a badly dripping tap on my bathroom mixer unit. There is no separate isolating valve for this tap so I'll have to close the stopcock. I tried closing it today but it won't go absolutely 100% closed and there is still a very slight flow...
