anyone been on a gas safe registration inspection event?

Yes I have, basically a power point presentation session with a small assessment at the end, all based around IGEM/G/11 unsafe situations procedures.
About 25 fairly local engineers for a 3 hour session with lots of questions and answers.

I could not make the event as was away, so Gas safe re-organised an actual personal inspection with my usual contact.
Although i know it must have cost a bit more, i much much prefer it as the guy actually sees my installs and gives excellent feedback and help where the installs are a little unusual. (Non dom work).

thanks for the reply.. how many questions in the assesment? guessing its just basic stuff that no one would fail

Have to agree, I think in person inspections are better and should be carried out. There will be a disaster with this new system and HSE will come crashing down on them. Its a cost cutting exercise which will have bad consequences.

Can’t remember how many, maybe 40 or 50, it was open book you were asked to take a copy of unsafe situ. Dead easy pal, we’re told if you failed the test you’d get a site visit.

Haha, that’s a bit extreme! One thing they were pushing is for is engineers to report non gsr installations or even bad gsr installations we come across, I’ve seen plenty jobs not quite right when I go to do a service or landlords check, just bits and bobs like gas pipe slightly undersized or flue brackets missing, I’ll generally just speak to the customer/landlord and give them a price to do the remedial works to bring it up to scratch. GasSafe were encouraging engineers to report the job, I suppose it’s a way of doing site visits without wasting time on decent jobs, but I just guessing there.

Hello, I am looking for an honest opinion please, with my current employment I get a lot of time off, I am considering completing a gas safe course with the view to use my spare time to potter about doing boiler services and that only, am I naive to think it’s that simple? Thanks

Hi, I’m looking to retrain as a gas engineer and do a new entrants gas course. I’m a bit concerned by the ‘on-job’ work experience/shadowing, as some course want to charge £1500 to pair you up with a qualified engineer. Some courses don’t offer pairing and suggest you find your own engineer to...

Hi. just had my probationary inspection. Most of the inspection went ok, apart from when the inspector asked me questions about gas fires and gas cookers. I have my ticket for boilers and the inspection for all that side went fine. The last time I did anything about fires and cookers was 5 years...

Full disclosure, I am an Electrician. One of my older clients has just had her fire capped off because it doesn't comply with today's regs and was told the regs are now retrospectively applied. This is the opposite of what I am used to. For example, if I do an electrical inspection and find a...
