Eggy smell downstairs when kitchen sink used upstairs. This happens only when the upstairs kitchen sink hasn't been used for a while (i.e. 8 hours/a working day). It goes away after about 15mins or so.

What is the cause and what can be done about it?

Specific advice would be greatly appreciated!

When you can smell the when you can smell the smell With a bucket underneath unscrew the trap underneath the sink. Is there water in it

Sounds like you are loosing your “trap seal” .
Post a pic of the trap .
Have you the usual 4” / 110mm soil pipe outside or is your soilpipe outside ?

When the smell is there use a straw or a thin piece of wood. Push it through the waste plug hole as far as you can and it should show water on it when you pull it out, if no water mark then the trap is being sucked dry hence the smells.

Try to identify whether it’s the water that smells of rotten eggs, or the whole room. Run the tap for a few minutes and see if the smell gets stronger. If it doesn’t, this is going to be an easy job, as the drain is the problem – meaning something nasty is stuck down there (if it’s the water, however, you may need to get a plumber out), which you can usually tackle as a DIY job.

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...
