Help please:)
We are in the process of taking down a stud wall between our kitchen and dining room.
As we are taking the plastebaord down we have come across a copper pipe (literally situated in the middle of the wall..approx 16mm)
All the downstairs radiators are on show and run up the corner of the walls (boxed in). We have put the heating on and it stays cold. We have ran all of the hot water from the taps and the it stays cold. The water supply under the sink come from the taps and take a right ....a different direction to where the pipe is. The stop valve for water is in the the kitchen but on an opposite (outside) wall.
Where the pipe is situation ....above it is a bedroom...and the radiator in that room is under the window. We have no idea what the pipe may be for :-(

Any pictures?

Be aware it could be a gas supply or a cold water rising main do you have water storage tanks in your lofts ? Kop

Switch off the boiler then run all the taps, steady flow. See how quick the pipe gets cold (or not) and perhaps try and check if you can you hear any flow in the pipe (see if you can use a piece of hose as a stethoscope - practice on another pipe with known flow - try different flow rates). Don't assume anything if you can't hear anything.

For tanks in the loft as Kop raises above, do you know where the feed pipe runs?

Unless you are 100% sure then I'd get in a professional to sort it. Also are you confident the stud wall isn't structural.

Cheers,

Roy (amateur)
