Concealed shower replacement

Hi looking at a Triton Mersey concealed thermo which has thrown a third cartridge in 8 yrs! now discontinued looking to replace with a manual mixer concealed or surface mount. Not bothered about loosing the fixed head, could go for a hose/rail. I believe centres for the feed pipes is 170mm.

Trying to come up with the least disruptive route for tiles and pipe work. Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully received ;-)

I’d just break it open, don’t look like fancy tiles, easy to make good.

Prob get it all done apart from grouting in half a day. Then come back the following to grout.

It is possible to multitool grout lines and cut out tiles and replace the concealed mixer. Have you got spare tiles. If not think about making a feature with something different with a bit of colour mosaics for example. Assuming that tiles and wall surface underneath in general are sound and secure. I've done this a few times now. using a fabricated stainless steel insert on one occasion

I have personal experience with a Triton electric shower I fitted (to my own house) in 2008 having two internal parts fail between being installed and 2011 or 2012 as well as needing a new external hose in that time period.

Then a spare part I had fitted failed again after just over 3 months and Triton tried to hide behind warranty terms to avoid its responsibility under the (then) Sale of Goods Act. No doubt an honest error on the part of one of its employees. Luckily Trading Standards got involved and had a chat with them and simultaneously the firm decided to give me a rather speedy replacement part, but by then I'd already replaced with a budget Mira shower.

This was around 2011 or 2012. The Mira shower is still in use and the only part to fail has been the soap dish on the riser rail. You may guess which brand I refuse to supply and fit.

Update to previous post. Having checked, I can confirm that the date of around 2011 or 2012 was out by a year: the actual date was 2013.

The point of what I have written above is that perhaps the problem is not so much the fact that your shower is thermostatic as the fact that that particular cartridge design, perhaps, is not very good. Perhaps try another brand?
