Blocked loo?

Hi there,

Hoping someone can help. In our upstairs bathroom, the toilet does not appear to be flushing properly. Liquids go down fine, albeit a bit slowly... but solids on the other hand have a tendency to, ahem, hang around. The water level rises when we flush and slowly goes down again. The sink and bath both drain absolutely fine.

We have tried a plunger on the toilet and also bought one of those bendy rods to see if anything was lodged in the u-bend. It seemed to go through fine and we couldn't find any obvious obstructions. We lifted up the manhole cover which is located in the driveway outside and it was completely empty... but not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing! :S

We are contemplating taking the entire loo out because it's one of those push fit connections in to the u-bend to see if we can see any kind of other obstructions in the soil pipe.... is this a bad idea?!

Does anyone have any good ideas of things we should try before we finally bite the bullet and call out a proper plumber? Just about to move house so trying not to spend too much is all!

Stand on a chair with a bucket of water. Pour the bucket of water into the pan from as high as possible. The force should clear the blockage. It's always hard to unblock a toilet that's not completely blocked (if that makes sense).

Try that, if no joy and your confident enough, take the pan out.

Use a old fashioned mop

pound to a penny there either a children toy or a loo freshener plastic cage down there stuck in the multiquick usually

as Bod suggested, get an old style mop and flush and give it a good rodgering. If that doh werk take the toilet out and clean out whatever is there. If the problem keeps happening it maybe due to how the waste is fitted.

Had to take the toilet out in the end. Yep, plastic toilet freshener stuff between the porcelain and the waste pipe. Managed to cling on to lots of wipes and gunk. Horrid but pleased it wasn't further down the waste pipe. The pain was the leaks occurring after when putting it back together. Grrrr. Still, worked out in the end. Thanks for your pointers.

Bod is dead right - my MRs gets really annoyed she buys the new mops and I use them for clearing bogs/ 4 inch drains - the bit I dont get tho is why when I bring them back she will not use them for mopping the tile floors - stick a proper mop into the problem and give it a good push twist and usually hey presto - no dynarod (oops are they sponsors ?) CHK

I like the noise of a stream of water hitting 5 rolls worth of sodden Andrex! I've always used a 4" plug on end of drain rod, splatters everywhere !

Works dozens of times for me. Especially with sanitary towels ect.

The scurge of the plumber them plastic thingies . They normally get stuck just far enough in the pipe to ensure its a rubber glove job its :lipsrsealed2::lipsrsealed2: but somebody has to do it.:tank:
