What would anybody care to hazard as a fair price for a, pre oil boiler install, flush.
There are 20 radiators in total. Am awaiting a figure from a heating firm and
am not very expectant on a good price as they seem to come up with random figures.
They gave me a figure 2 years ago for a Kamco flush which was £550 then so god knows what it will be now. I have seen you can hire a machine for £150 a week maybe the DIY route is the way to go.
 
Depending on the state of the system that could easily be a day and a half to 2 days work. We don’t discuss prices on the forum as there is so much geographical fluctuation

Experience is key with a flush. Could take 2 days. Sounds cheap to me.

Straight away, you’ll break down the relationship with the boiler installer, doing things like that. If someone did that to me, it’d get my back up. £550 is cheap for a 20 rad system.... considering to do it properly would take maybe two days.
 
So £210 before he even starts. £340 left to cover 1.5-2 days flush

Minus tax, fuel, running costs

Probably left with £200 out of that

What’s your problem???
 
Wear and tear on machine, travel to and from job, proper chemicals, proper clean rather than just turn on the machine and read the paper, treat each rad individually to clean, neutralise cleaning chemicals, correct Ph levels and TDS levels. It’s very labour intensive if done properly. Are you begrudging someone earning a profit on a job well done and properly. Sorry it really gets my back up when people say that I must be minted I worked bloody hard for my money
 
I'd be looking hire of machine and magnacleanse and chemicals +20% then 2 days labour.

I reckon you wouldnt get much change out of £800.

If you think he is ripping you off try British gas or one of the other big suppliers.

You quote a price from 2 years ago so therefore
does this mean nothing has been carried out in the intervening time ?

I think your point is entirely correct, for a proper flush to be carried out ...the expensive machine is needed, but as you say it is very labour intensive if
done properly so the charges are quite valid. zIts the fellas that walk up,your path with spurs rattling on their rigger boots that mess it up in my opinion

Another case of not knowing the full extent of what goes into flushing and/or running a heating business by the looks of it.

The answer is yes, yes you will find someone who will do it cheaper than £550 likely.
They won't be doing the same job though. Sure they might have a machine on and throw some chemicals in even. But at what appears to be (at face value) a simple procedure actually involves alot of knowledge and experience to get the best results.

If you get it flushed by someone other than your installer it's likely they'll refuse to come back for any issues you experience afterwards. As if the flush isn't done correctly then it can wreck the new boiler - which would then be on your shoulders to try to get third party back again or pay out of pocket to get rectified again (boiler warranties are also void if not correctly flushed as it's excluded in most of the terms and conditions).

If you needed it a couple of years ago (and nothing had been done in mean time) there's also a high chance that your system water quality has deteriorated further and the job has become larger and requires more time to correct.
 
It's been seven years since I worked for a company where we did power flushing but from memory the cost then was £400 for up to 10 rads and another £20 per rad over that base figure so £600 for a 20 rad system. Add in yearly increases in prices of everything and your price starts to look very fair, provided all is done correctly.
 
The problem here is that, done properly, it is a long job. But we all know that loads of boilers are changed in a half day. Including a PF..........

When I worked for iguana many moons ago I was doing a boiler change and a powerflush in a day leaving home at 6am getting home 9-10pm really screwed me over and was knackered constantly.

We had an area meeting and they said 1 bloke Leicester way I think was doing 2 jobs a day I asked how the hell they could do that and a power flush as I was just starting installing the boiler at 3pm due to the flush 1 of the other lads said your doing a flush why you doing that!

Did the job spec for them all include a PF?

Haha... iguana! The happy days of warmfront. I worked for ECGS, but me and team use to install full heats in a day. I feel your woes, it killed me too

But money was good... very good, mind you I earned it
