I have an Aqualisa Colt shower, the on off end end part has come off and the shower will not turn off… water is gushing out and the only way to stop is to turn off the water for the whole house… really appreciate any DIY fixes please, so I can use the water, heating (combi boiler) until plumbers reopen please

There may be some service valves in the pipes supplying the unit that you can turn off to isolate the shower from the rest of the house.

The most common types look something like this:

Thank you both for your replies and suggestions… there’s a maze of pipes… see attached photos… not sure there’s an isolating thing for the shower but looks a couple of taps but maybe for heating pump or washing machine?! Is it any of those please? Thank you again

1. None of the valves in your pictures are likely to be for the shower.
2. Can you post a picture of the shower, with another showing the end the knob has come off.
3. With the knob missing, do you have a splined shaft showing? If so, as Undertrained suggested in post 2, can you not turn the water off by gripping the splines in a pair of pliers and turning the shaft? Gently, and try not to damage the splines.
4. Sometimes you can just push the knob on the splines and turn off without re-affixing the knob.

Thank you, the end comes off with the stick part and without… we’ve tried pliers on the stick bit… but doesn’t seem to stop it

Remove the chrome pieces eg undo the front screw lift the top and bottom pieces off as they might be in the way

We’ve been trying to relive the front screw but it just keeps spinning round… it’s tempting to try and force but don’t like to.. thank you for your suggestions. I should add, it’s only mum who’s a pensioner and I, so really appreciate help and ideas to try and enable us to turn shower off so we can get the heating on! Thanks

Set of pointy needle nose pliers

1. It looks as if the "on/off" valve and its entire spindle have become detached from the rest of the unit. I don't know how this one goes together so can't advise on re-assembling it.
2. However, the valve appears to be a push fit onto the pipes, being held in place by four screw. If you could get hold of two 15 mm Speedfit stop ends you could:
2a. Turn off the water at the mains.
2b. Remove the cover plate.
2c. Undo and remove the four fixing screws securing the black plastic body of the mechanism to the wall.
2d. Slide the valve off the pipes,
2e. Push a stop end onto each pipe.
2f. Turn the water on again and check all is secure.
3. I notice most of the shops (B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation etc.) are closed today. If its really urgent and you are prepared to drive to Hanger Lane I can give you a couple of the stop ends.
4. Have a look at https://www.showerspares.com/downloads/aqualisa_aquarian_1999-current.pdf for some idea of how it all fits together, and to confirm it is the same as the one in the pictures.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

I have an ideal vogue max S18 boiler and I’m considering fitting auto balancing TRVs, my question relates to the boilers pump. I see a boiler pump menu for either 70% or 100%, so, is the pump set at either one of two fixed speed percentages or does the pump actually vary speed, (modulate)...

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks
