Discuss Air Admittance Valve question for bad smell in the USA area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi Everyone,

We have a new house that may not have been piped correctly. There is a sewer smell in the laundry room and I am thinking of adding an air admittance valve to the standpipe in the laundry room since I do not know if the drain is connected to a vent pipe. Would that be okay to do to see if it fixes the smell problem? Or if the drain is connected to the vent pipe would adding an air admittance valve cause some sort of problem?

Also the standpipe is shorter than it should be. Would that contribute to the smell problem since the washing machine hose goes into it at a downward angle?

Hi all, I would really appreciate your eyes on these pictures - What do you see ? Does anything look strange about the Rockwool insulation to you? I suspect that my long ongoing rotting veg/sewage smell is caused by a fault in this connection that has been hidden from previous inspections...
